Our robotics engineering team in Perth has grown rapidly over the past 12 months in order to accelerate the development of our next-generation autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) platform. In this role as a Software Engineer you will be responsible for developing and advancing acoustic navigation products within our existing subsea product range, and additionally working on the development of our AUV platform to build new capabilities and enter new markets. You will be working on the cutting edge in-house acoustics, navigation and robotics to push the industry in new directions.

Role Responsibilities:

    • Working closely with a passionate cross-functional team of engineers, developing embedded  C/C++ real-time applications on ARM Cortex-based microcontrollers
    • Become an expert in developing innovative surface and subsea acoustic navigation solutions
    • Performing research to come up with software solutions to challenging problems and requirements
    • Develop capabilities on our AUV platform, especially acoustic navigation, acoustic communication and signal processing. Deliver quality software solutions to agreed schedules and deadlines
    • Manage work packages and proactively report on scope and schedule risks to project/functional managers
    • Work with a bright and motivated team


    • Degree-qualified engineer with specialisation in computer systems, software engineering similar
    • Be comfortable deep diving into technical topics and learning new skills to solve emerging problems
    • Possess strategic thinking and strong abilities to distil large amounts of information quickly and accurately
    • Have a collaborative and team-oriented mindset for accomplishing goals
    • Have a bias-to-action and the desire to make things happen
    • Be confident developing disruptive technologies and pushing the boundaries of what is possible 
    • Be a passionate, hungry learner that gets excited about professional growth and being challenged by new opportunities


    • Have 3+ years of engineering experience with complex software products
    • Have experience with embedded systems and microcontrollers
    • Have experience with all stages of the product development cycle, concept development, R&D, design and planning
    • Have experience releasing production quality software
    • Real-time application development is desirable
    • Experience with FPGA development, or in integrating FPGAs into a wider system is desirable
    • Experience with digital signal processing is desirable
    • STM32 bare metal programming experience is desirable


    • C/C++ proficiency for embedded targets
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent time management, driven to work quickly
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Be comfortable deep diving into technical topics and learning new skills to solve new problems
    • Possess strategic thinking and strong abilities to distil large amounts of information quickly and accurately
    • MATLAB proficiency is desirable
    • DSP proficiency is desirable
    • VHDL proficiency is desirable
