Adverum is a clinical-stage AAV-based gene therapy company targeting unmet medical needs in ocular and rare diseases. We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to contribute to the development of innovative gene therapies in the nonclinical research group. The successful candidate will conduct internal and external nonclinical studies to generate proof of concept as well as evaluate tolerability of novel gene therapy candidates. 

What you'll do:

    • Conduct nonclinical development activities (pharmacology and toxicology) for IND-enablement of gene therapy products.
    • Design, manage and conduct nonclinical hands-on studies (GLP and non-GLP) for inclusion in regulatory submissions, including pharmacology, toxicology, and biodistribution studies.
    • Hands-on nonclinical studies and vivarium management at a site off of Adverum's campus - this will occupy the majority of your time.
    • Collaborate with members of research team to evaluate early gene therapy candidates in animal models of ocular diseases. 
    • Serve as an intellectual, technical and hands-on expert in animal models of human diseases.
    • Train, assist and collaborate with other nonclinical and research team members
    • Serve as a liaison between Adverum and external in vivo facility management and staff.
    • Author and submit IACUC protocols and obtain approvals.
    • Ensure compliance of the internally conducted nonclinical studies with IACUC protocols and LSBS practices.
    • Work closely with the nonclinical study monitoring team to ensure that planning and execution of the outsourced projects adhere to the highest standards.
    • Write and edit nonclinical study protocols and study reports.
    • Prepare and edit nonclinical documents for regulatory submission, in collaboration with manager.
    • Facilitate and execute nonclinical development plans for future pipeline products.
    • Prepare materials for presentation and present the data to group and company leadership, as well as at the external meetings and conferences.
    • Maintain current understanding of gene therapy field, as well as the scientific literature related to specific drug discovery projects.

About you:

    • PhD degree or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences, life sciences, pharmacology or veterinary sciences with overall 12+ years of experience in industrial and/or academic research, including 5+ years in the pharmaceutical industry environment.
    • Expertise in small animal surgical technique
    • Hands on experience in the development of animal models. Experience in animal models of ocular diseases is desired.
    • Ability to plan independently and execute experiments, develop reagents, methods and assays, record and interpret data, and succinctly communicate results in oral and written form.
    • Vivarium operations management experience.
    • Ability to work in heavily matrixed environment, through productive development and maintenance of interdisciplinary collaborative networks.
    • Integrate and critically analyze data sets.
$170,704 - $183,800 a year
The salary range for this position is $170,704 USD to $183,800 USD annually, with the opportunity to earn an annual bonus. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, including education, length of experience, location, and market data.  Employees in this position are eligible to participate in the applicable Company equity incentive award plan. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.  Employees in this position are eligible to participate in the Company’s standard employee benefit programs, which currently include the following: medical, dental, vision, 401k, STD/LTD, life and accident insurance, and either paid time off or flexible paid time off.
