What We're About
Aerion is on a mission to change the face of global mobility through supersonic flight. Our leadership, engineers, and support staff all share a passion for building a new kind of aerospace company – one that asks questions, stays agile, and is not afraid to try new things. We are creating a company culture based on collaboration, data driven decisions, and adaptability. Working at Aerion is so much more than just building the world’s first supersonic business jet – it’s bringing the aerospace industry to the modern age and beyond.

Here's the Deal
As the Flight Control Laws Senior Engineer, you'll report to the Flight Controls IPT Lead and be responsible for developing flight control law algorithms for the AS2 supersonic business jet.

On any given day you might:

    • Lead development of control laws for an advanced fly-by-wire flight control system
    • Develop requirements for flight control laws including sensors and air data systems to comply with civil certification standards (FAR25/CS25)
    • Independently resolve flight control related issues throughout the vehicle design and test process
    • Responsible for outer loop autopilot and supporting navigation and flight path planning functions
    • Provide inputs to developmental and FAA-approved flight manuals including normal handling characteristics and emergency procedures
    • Work closely with the flight control systems software and hardware teams and be a major contributor to the architecture of the FCS
    • Work closely with stability & control, mass properties, aerodynamics, propulsion, and structures engineering personnel
    • Support formal validation and verification processes through unit, software/hardware integration, failure modes and effects, and ground and flight test through planning, conduct, and analyses
    • Support stability and control and handling qualities efforts
    • Troubleshoot simulation integration issues including 6-DOF simulations and piloted simulations for handling qualities and human-machine interface assessments
    • Provide inputs to and support program-level reviews

We're looking for someone who has:

    • BS in Aeronautics or Aerospace Engineering with more than 10 years of experience (or MS in engineering plus 8 years of experience)
    • Experience with the latest industry-standard flight control law design and analysis tools such as MATLAB/Simulink
    • Experience in the creation of control law algorithms
    • High-speed air vehicle flight control experience
    • Ability to apply results of stability and control analyses and data to flight control law design and updates
    • Knowledge of, and experience with, flight control related federal and international regulatory requirements and means of compliance
    • Given the nature of the technical data to be handled, must be a US Person (US Citizen or Permanent Resident)
    • Familiarity with air data algorithms development
    • Familiarity with the development of embedded software for real-time, safety-critical applications
    • Supersonic air vehicle flight control experience
    • Organize, schedule and effectively coordinate work packages / phases, and lead less experienced team members in stability and control analysis tasks
    • Familiarity with generating documentation to support certification efforts related to flight control laws

We want to build a company around people who are:

    • Highly self-motivated with a strong bias for action
    • Effective at nurturing strong professional relationships
    • Committed to fostering a culture of empowerment & creativity
