This is a newly created position, supporting Aerion's next growth phase. As our Senior Accountant & Payroll Specialist, your responsibilities include safeguarding the completeness and accuracy of Aerion’s accounting records by preparing, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions, reconciling account balances, bank statements and other information, maintaining the general ledger and performing month-end close procedures. Even though your responsibilities will cover different areas of accounting, your focus will be related to payroll processing, benefits, payroll taxes and other accounting activities related to payroll. This role will partner closely with Human Resources and be the company’s subject matter expert with respect to payroll activities.

On any given day you might:

    • Support the transition of the accounting activities, with a particular focus on payroll, from an outsourced accounting provider to the in-house accounting team, as well as the implementation of SAP
    • Once the in-house accounting function has been successfully implemented, perform more routine monthly accounting activities
    • Responsible for timely and accurate preparation and processing of our semi-monthly payroll
    • Prepare and maintain all payroll related records and reports
    • File and pay applicable federal and state payroll taxes
    • Participate in the timely generation and efficient distribution of W-2s
    • Implement and maintain payroll best practices to improve efficiency and consult with Human Resources to improve payroll processes
    • Prepare quarterly/annual payroll reports
    • Maintain employee records in payroll systems
    • Produce scheduled and ad-hoc reports pertaining to payroll and benefits
    • Reconcile monthly payroll, benefit and worker’s compensation invoices, correcting for enrollments and terminations
    • Ensure transactions are accurately and timely recorded in the general ledger
    • Support the month-end and year-end close process
    • Review and recommend modifications to the accounting systems, policies and procedures
    • Provide input into the accounting department’s goal setting and monitoring process
    • Provide support for internal and external audits to ensure compliance
    • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
    • Ensure compliance with Aerion’s accounting policies and U.S. GAAP
    • Provide accounting support for special ad-hoc projects as directed by the Assistant Controller and the Controller

We're looking for someone who has:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
    • At least 5+ years of experience administering payroll required
    • Work experience should include knowledge of basic accounting, payroll practices, benefits reconciliation, and state laws and compliance
    • Must have strong knowledge of a variety of computer software applications including payroll (ADP and SAP strongly preferred), time and attendance systems, etc.
    • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
    • Must have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations
    • Prefer to work in a fast-paced environment with high expectations and heavy multi-tasking
    • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
    • Extremely effective attention to detail to ensure accuracy of data and consistent follow-through for each applicant to closure
    • In-depth awareness of employment laws and regulations, particularly in California, Nevada and Florida
    • Highly self-motivated with a strong bias for action, and excellent problem-solving skills across multi-disciplinary skill sets
    • Ability to develop high levels of credibility and forge solid professional relationships with peers, and management
