Here's the Deal
As the Lead Thermodynamics Engineer you'll report to the VP of Flight Sciences and be responsible for leading the estimation and evaluation of aerothermal heating and subsystem thermal management through the full design process of the AS2 supersonic business jet.

On any given day you might:

    • Lead, integrate and/or coordinate all thermodynamics functions within the AS2 program
    • Oversee thermal management, calculate thermal conditions throughout the aircraft flight envelope, and assess any thermodynamics related issues
    • Provide structural team with temperature maps and understand first-order thermal response
    • Interact with subsystems leads and SMEs to ensure thermodynamic subsystem analyses are adequately integrated
    • Maintain bookkeeping of thermodynamic loads and thermal balance of the aircraft
    • Review bay ventilation requirements and design
    • Suggest mitigation strategies wherever appropriate
    • Support the development of aircraft and systems level requirements for flight sciences and other disciplines
    • Work with partners, contractors and suppliers

We are looking for someone who has:

    • BS degree in Aeronautical, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering (Master's Degree preferred)
    • A minimum of 6 years of experience in aircraft thermodynamics (Or 4 years of experience with MS or higher engineering degree)
    • Thermodynamics subject matter expert in at least one aviation thermodynamics sub-discipline such as heat exchanger design, environmental control, anti-ice, external aerothermodynamics or internal flows and ventilation
    • Experience working in multiple aviation thermodynamics sub-disciplines
    • Familiarity with aviation regulatory compliance
    • Familiarity with aircraft development
    • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a mix of in-house, partner, contract and supplier experts
    • Basic familiarity with project management
    • Ability to succinctly summarize and report status, risks, opportunities and issues to senior managers and company executives
    • Excellent English communication skills both written and verbal
    • Experience with aerothermal simulations and/or testing of high-speed vehicles and/or propulsion systems
    • Experience computing heating/cooling loads and zonal temperatures
    • Familiarity with commercial aircraft environmental control systems
    • Experience with validation of designs using steady-state and transient thermodynamic and heat transfer analyses
    • Experience defining or validating power requirements for anti-ice and defogging systems
    • Experience with bleed air system thermal management and pressure drop analyses
    • Experience with heat exchanger design and analysis
    • Familiarity with industry-standard 3D computational fluid dynamics, structural finite element and/or multiphysics analysis and design tools
    • Python & MATLAB proficiency
