Here's the Deal
As the Director of Systems Safety you will report directly to the COO and be responsible for helping Aerion obtain airworthiness certifications for the AS2 supersonic business jet.

On any given day you might:

    • Define, analyze, and manage product requirements
    • Perform functional, performance, system hazard, and software functional hazard analysis
    • Perform system design, detail trade studies, systems integration and test, hazard mitigation, and safety documentation
    • Produce technical plans, cost and risk analyses, and safety cost estimates
    • Analyze customer requirements, develop system safety requirements, and decompose requirements and functions to lower levels
    • Perform detailed technical safety analyses for a subsystem or system elements
    • Develop and evaluate systems, networks, and information systems to ensure designs meet applicable governmental safety standards
    • Develop system safety documentation on both new and fielded information systems
    • Participate in Modeling and Simulation
    • Research and analyze data, such as vendor products, COTS components, GFE/CFE, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
    • Identify, analyze, and resolve system safety design weaknesses

We're looking for someone who has:

    • A Technical degree in an related discipline
    • 15+ years of direct experience in aerospace Systems Engineering and/or Systems Safety
    • Extensive experience and knowledge in System Safety processes
    • Prefer current or former credentialed FAA DAR or DER
    • Principal involvement in obtaining more than one FAA; Type Certificate (TC), Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) and/or Parts Manufacture Approval (PMA)
    • Proficient use and understanding of systems engineering concepts, principles, and theories
    • Direct experience developing Functional Hazard Assessments, Systems Safety Analyses, Fault Tree Analysis, Common Mode Analysis, FMEA with requirements validation and verification
    • Experience in application of SAE ARP 4754A and ARP 4761 for safety assessments
    • Knowledge of DO160, DO178, DO254 standards
    • Proficient written and verbal communications skills
    • Able to sell concepts and ideas to program management and engineering leadership
    • Ability to multi-task, think creatively, and apply new ideas quickly to complex assignments
    • Strong initiative and ability to exercise independent judgment and execute with little direction
    • Clear and concise communication skills when discussing issues, impacts, and corrective actions
    • A high degree of comfort assembling System Safety Working Groups (SSWG) and leading SSWG activities
    • Sound judgment in selecting methods and techniques for mitigating hazards/hazard conditions
