As the Thermodynamics Engineer, you'll report to the Deputy Chief Engineer of Flight Sciences and be responsible for assisting the Thermodynamics Team with design and evaluation of aircraft thermal subsystems through the full design process of the AS2 supersonic business jet.

On any given day you might:

    • Assist in evaluating all thermodynamics functions within the AS2 program
    • Emphasis for this position is given to provide thermal analysis support for all aircraft systems
    • Estimate conditions throughout the aircraft flight envelope, and assess any thermodynamics related issues
    • Provide structural team with temperature maps and understand first-order thermal response
    • Interact with subsystems leads and SMEs to ensure thermodynamic subsystem analyses are adequately integrated
    • Maintain bookkeeping of thermodynamic loads and thermal balance of the aircraft
    • Review bay ventilation requirements and design
    • Suggest mitigation strategies wherever appropriate
    • Support the development of aircraft and systems level requirements for flight sciences and other disciplines
    • Work with partners, contractors and suppliers

We are looking for someone who has:

    • BS degree in Aeronautical, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering (Master's Degree preferred)
    • A minimum of 6 years of experience in aircraft thermodynamics modeling (Or 4 years of experience with MS or higher engineering degree)
    • Proficient in Aero-Fluid-Thermal Systems analysis and design, using physics-based systems modeling, analysis, and simulation (preferably using Amesim).
    • Experienced in building, validating aero-thermal system models
    • Experienced in Finite Element Thermal Analysis (preferably Thermal Desktop) and CFD (preferably Star-CCM+) are desired
    • Good understanding of internal/external flows, natural/forced convection, and radiative heat transfer modeling
    • Experienced in Linux based high performance computing clusters (HPC) for CFD simulations
    • Experience with Ice Accretion and Ice Protection modeling is desired
    • Familiarity with commercial aircraft environmental control systems
    • Familiarity with aviation regulatory compliance
    • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a mix of in-house, partner, contract and supplier experts
    • Ability to succinctly summarize and report status, risks, opportunities
    • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
    • Experience with validation of designs using steady-state and transient thermodynamic and heat transfer analyses
    • Python or MATLAB proficiency
