What We’re Looking for
At Afero, everyone on the team contributes a distinct perspective. We are looking for problem solvers with great skills and experience. The devops team at Afero builds highly rated apps for Android and iOS to set up and configure smart home products in just a few minutes. Afero provides tight integration among App, Cloud and Hardware for our systems. As we scale and grow, we are seeking an experienced and hands-on DevOps Manager to lead and inspire our engineering team to build best in class, easy to use features for the app. Looking for candidates located in California, Texas, Georgia, Masssachusetts, or Utah.

Candidates would be expected to:

    • Lead and mentor Afero’s high-performing DevOps team, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
    • Define and communicate team goals, expectations, and priorities.
    • Develop and execute a comprehensive DevOps strategy aligned with the company's goals and objectives.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement DevOps best practices.
    • Drive continuous improvement in processes, tools, and methodologies.
    • Design, implement, and manage automated deployment pipelines for IoT applications and services.
    • Implement infrastructure as code (IaC) practices for provisioning and managing IoT resources.
    • Ensure scalability, reliability, and performance of the IoT infrastructure.
    • Oversee the management of cloud services (GCP, Azure, or other relevant platforms) for IoT solutions.
    • Implement and enforce security best practices for IoT infrastructure and applications.
    • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing regular updates on DevOps initiatives and achievements.
    • And other duties as assigned

Candidates should have the following at a minimum:

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
    • Proven experience in a DevOps leadership role, preferably in the IoT domain.
    • Strong background in automation, scripting, and infrastructure as code.
    • In-depth knowledge of cloud platforms such as GCP.
    • Familiarity with IoT protocols, platforms, and technologies.
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

The following skills and experiences are also valued:

    • Java and/or Golang experience.
    • Demonstrated security/SecOps leadership, with experience integrating security and compliance tools at every stage of the software development lifecycle. Experience designing and scaling PKI management infrastructure is a big plus.
    • Observability chops, including extensive work with Prometheus, Zipkin, Jaeger, Grafana, and friends.
    • Experience managing MySQL, PostgreSQL, and or SQLServer databases, as well as Redis cache clusters.
$180,000 - $240,000 a year
The US base salary range for this full-time position is expected to be $180,000 - $240,000. Actual pay is determined by a range of factors including work location, job-related skills and experience, relevant education, training or certifications, and other business and organizational needs. At Afero it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. This range reflects base salary only; Afero also offers competitive benefits and equity compensation which are not included in these numbers.
