JOB SUMMARY:
With supervision from the Clinic Site RN Manager, performs routine clinical skills and nurse visits, including clinical procedures and participating in patient education.

Clinical Duties

    • Performs nursing duties under the supervision of the triage/registered nurse.
    • Identifies health care needs and document medical information clearly and accurately.
    • Takes and records vital signs, recognizing variances from normal, and taking appropriate action.
    • Perform clerical duties in Triage offices such as obtaining health information and relevant data, and functioning as an appointment maker under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or a Medical Provider.
    • Assist in maintaining inventory and order supplies, keeping exam room and nursing area well-stocked.
    • Performs venipuncture and skin punctures for lab tests (if trained).
    • Performs basic in-house lab tests, obtains/processes other specimens for outside laboratory.
    • Performs EKG, spirometry, audiometry, Snellen, and other tests.
    • May start IV line (if IV certified) and superimpose IV fluids via primary or secondary infusion line lines (if received training and have completed a Board-approved certification course in IV therapy and venipuncture.
    • Administers IM, ID, SC, PO, and nebulized medications as ordered by the clinicians.
    • Performs non-complicated nurse visits by using the SOAP format.
    • Identifies patient health education needs and participates in patient education.
    • Review patients’ conditions with clinician/RN as needed.
    • Assists in medical procedures as needed.
    • Performs additional clinic duties as necessary under the direction of the clinician, Registered Nurse, or Clinic Site RN Manager.
    • Performs sterilization, injection control, cleaning of medical instruments/equipment, and clinic areas.
    • Performs patient counseling and patient teaching as appropriate.
    • Rotates to AMSHO satellite clinic as needed.
    • Assist staff and patients by referring to community resources as appropriate and when necessary.  

Other Responsibilities

    • Delegate tasks to non-licensed nursing staff, medical assistants, and volunteers within the unit.  
    • May occasionally be requested to work on weekends with appropriate notice and subject to availability.
    • Attends all staff and component meetings.
    • Assists in AHS-related outreach and advocacy activities as a volunteer.
    • Identifies problems in patient care and work areas, seeks solutions via appropriate resources; oversees the flow of patients in the unit.
    • Assists in the supervision of non-licensed nursing staff, including volunteers.
    • Demonstrates good communication skills with patients, families, and co-workers/ supervisors.
    • Carries out AHS organizational goals in an appropriate manner.
    • Attend AHS functions as required.
    • Participates in orientation and training for volunteers and new staff.
    • May assist in the overall supervision of less experienced LVNs.
    • May collaborate with Clinic Site RN Manage to maintain and improve clinic operations.

Technical/Ethical Responsibilities

    • Adheres to policy and procedures within the unit.
    • Ensures patient's rights to privacy, safety, and confidentiality under HIPAA privacy rules.
    • Obtains continuing education credits and participates in goal setting, with guidance from the direct supervisor.
    • Performs QA audits assigned by the Registered Nurse and identifies patient care issues.
    • Assists with translation and clerical work as needed.
    • May enforce unit and organizational policies, procedures, and goals.
    • May enforce patient rights and patient satisfaction among the nursing collective.
    • May be accountable for the efficient use of time, materials, and human resources.

Supervisory Responsibilities

    • Carries out supervisory responsibilities by AHS policies and applicable laws
    • Responsibilities include participating in interviewing, hiring and training employees
    • Planning, assigning and directing work
    • Appraising performance
    • Rewarding and disciplining employees
    • Addressing complaints and resolving problems

Minimum Qualifications

    • Associate’s degree (A.A.) from a two-year college or graduate of an approved LVN program and one to three years’ related experience in a health care setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Bilingual/bicultural in an Asian language required

Preferred Qualifications

    • Commitment to working in the Asian community, to community health care with familiarity with community health clinics preferred
