**This position requires 3 days a week in office, located in North York, Ontario**

As the Payroll Manager, you will oversee and manage the payroll functions of the organization, ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.

You will play a crucial role in supporting our diverse workforce and ensuring compliance with provincial, state, federal, and local laws and best practices. The Payroll Manager plays a critical role in administering and enhancing the Company’s benefits and pension programs.

The Payroll Manager also supports the Corporate Controller in the month-end analysis for key balances and performance indicators, and assists in the preparation of period-end working papers.

Primary Responsibilities:

    • Oversee the processing of recurring payrolls.
    • Ensure accurate calculation of wages, tax withholdings, and company deductions.
    • Ensure compliance with provincial, state, federal and local payroll laws and best practices.
    • Prepare and submit various payroll-related documents, including tax reports and voluntary deduction reports.
    • Supervise and mentor payroll staff, fostering an environment of learning and growth.
    • Implement and maintain payroll best practices to improve efficiency.
    • Utilize payroll software for streamlining processes and integrating seamlessly with our accounting software (SAP).
    • Work closely with People & Values (“P&V”) and finance teams to align payroll management with overall organizational goals.
    • Address and resolve any payroll-related queries or issues from employees in a timely and effective manner.
    • Conduct regular payroll audits and reconcile payroll data for accuracy.
    • Gain working knowledge of the company’s accounting software tools: SAP 4/Hana, ADP, SAP Concur, and Analysis for Office.
    • Support the month-end reporting process, including creating working papers for payroll accruals, such as: salaries, vacation, temp labour, WSIB, etc.
    • Work with the Corporate Controller and Director of Supply Finance to prepare monthly reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

Additional Responsibilities:

    • Attend professional development courses to maintain designations in good standing.
    • Constantly look for efficiencies/ implement better ways of working.
    • Support the Corporate Controller in preparing documentation for the annual financial statement audit.

Qualifications:

    • USA Payroll experience a must for this role.
    • Maintain accounting/payroll designation or equivalent.
    • Post-secondary education in business or a related field 5+ years of experience in payroll processing and management, preferably in a similar industry.
    • Extensive knowledge of payroll functions, including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
    • Experience with payroll software and systems.
    • Strong leadership and team management skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
    • Detail-oriented with an aptitude for problem-solving.
    • Comfortable working in a startup style environment.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy.
    • Excellent planning, organizing, multitasking and time management skills.
    • Strong computer skills, intermediate level or above for Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Outlook.
