About the Role

We are looking for an Engineering Director to lead our User Experience division within the Airalo Engineering department. You’ll manage B2C teams and the internal tools team and ensure all related systems operate securely and effectively.
To be successful in this role, you should be confident in managing teams while at the same time settings goals, budgets, and timelines for B2C-focused teams. We also expect you to be in charge of internal in-house tools related to the division.
You’ll make sure we use cutting-edge technologies to provide the best user experience for the customers while maximizing productivity and helping the company grow.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Recruit, interview, hire, and train engineers in the division to meet scale-up.
    • Constructive performance evaluations and mentor the team for self-growth.
    • Oversee the daily workflow of the department
    • Develop standards and procedures to ensure that quality standards are met and consistent.
    • Creating quarterly OKRs for the division.
    • Participate in solving problems and incidents in high-load systems
    • Lead the team in maintaining monolithic application and migrating it to microservices.
    • Drive alignment with internal stakeholders and prioritize roadmap.
    • Communicate roadmaps, priorities, and decisions across a wide spectrum of audiences from engineers to product managers, growth teams, and executive teams.

Must-haves:

    • 6+ years of building world-class products for scale in manager roles.
    • 2+ years of work experience as a director of engineering(managing managers) or in a similar senior-level position.
    • Commercial experience in B2C-focused products with mobile apps such as e-commerce, and marketplace platforms.
    • Strong understanding of tradeoffs between maintainability, complexity, and speed of delivery.
    • Strong experience recruiting, leading, and scaling technical organizations.
    • Strong experience in AWS & Infrastructure as code, observability.
    • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Experience in service-oriented architecture and microservices architecture.
    • Excellent time management skills.
    • Experience in agile/scrum methodology
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to haves:

    • Prior work experience in telecommunications
    • Knowledge of eSIM and GSMA-related technologies and services
