Airbyte is the open-source standard for EL(T). We enable data teams to replicate data from applications, APIs, and databases to data warehouses, lakes, and other destinations. We believe only an open-source approach can solve the problem of data integration, as it enables us to cover the long tail of integrations while enabling teams to adapt pre-built connectors to their needs.

Within just 18 months, we've built 150+ connectors and we've had 9,000+ companies syncing data with us. We've raised $181M from some of the world's top investors (Benchmark, Accel, Altimeter, Coatue, Y Combinator, etc.) and believe in product-led growth, where we build something awesome and let our product bring the users, rather than an outbound sales engine with cold calls.

Airbyte is remote friendly, with most of the team still based in Silicon Valley. We’re fully transparent as a company. Our company handbook, culture & values, strategy and roadmap are open to all.

The Opportunity
You are a data engineer who enjoys blogging about your work. At Airbyte, you will be both a practicing data engineer and a technical writer. You will get access to Airbyte’s data to create real data applications used internally and at the same time share your learnings through blog articles, tutorials and guides using the modern data stack (not only data integration).

This is a unique opportunity to share your data expertise and create content that will reach thousands of data engineers every day (we are an ambitious team). You will be part of a team of data engineers and analytics engineers that have a passion for writing. We are creating a data-driven content team from the ground up. We just got started!

You will become a better writer, and will deep dive into the foundations of being a data engineer while building a public portfolio of Github projects and blog posts.

You are encouraged to choose the best tools for the job and reach out for help, for example, get trained on whatever skill will make your job more enjoyable.

What You'll Do

    • Make Airbyte a data-driven company. Build data applications using Airbyte’s data to be used internally to drive our business. For example, you will use Airbyte to combine data from Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and SEO tools to drive our content efforts.
    • Educate data engineers. Author blog articles, tutorials, and best practices guides targeting data engineers. We want to focus on quality over quantity, so if you are comfortable producing 2-4 high-quality pieces of content per month, that's already a lot.
    • Battle test the modern data stack. Create sample projects hosted in Github with reproducible code to go along with your articles.
    • Empower data engineers to share their learnings. Review guest articles from fellow data engineers through our Write for the Community project.
    • Empower Airbyte employees to share their learnings. Do pair-writing sessions with Airbyte engineers to create content on our engineering blog.
    • Make Airbyte a better product. Provide feedback on Airbyte documentation and product as you battle test it.
    • Distribute your content online. Engage with the community on Hacker News, Reddit, Quora, StackOverflow, Slack communities, Twitter, and Linkedin.

What You'll Need

    • Experience as a data engineer working with databases, data warehouses, SQL, dbt, Spark, Airflow, batch and streaming processing. Not all are required.
    • You are familiar with foundational concepts like dimensional modeling, data normalization, ETL/ELT pipelines, data structures, data quality...
    • You have published technical blog posts before, for example, on your company’s engineering blog or on your personal blog.
    • You are fluent in written and spoken English.
    • You pay attention to detail and are able to provide constructive feedback to others.
    • You are data-driven. You are encouraged to automate the most boring and repetitive tasks at work. That includes generating content from data.
    • A demonstrated ability to get stuff done. In an ideal world, you’ve worked in a fast-growing company and know what we should be doing today, in one year, and in two years.

    • Bonus
    • Bonus: Knowledge of infrastructure tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud…)
    • Bonus: Experience with data integration tools. You will get to benchmark all data integration tools.
