We are currently looking for a Designer/Product Developer to join our brand, reporting to our Product Development Lead. You will play a key role in researching trends, creating mood boards, curating cohesive collections, and designing commercially strong products from conception through development. Your responsibilities include helping to perform GAP analyses, designing assortment, collaborating closely with suppliers, sourcing fabrics, conducting fittings, and contributing to cost reduction initiatives. 

Essential Functions

    • Maintain a constant pulse on the market landscape including consumer needs, competition, trends, and brand position with a focus on the Australian market.
    • Understand and drive company-wide strategies and OKR’s.
    • Possesses good business acumen by having a working knowledge of how the larger business operates, which includes frequent interactions with various departments within the organization.
    • Demonstrate a strong ability to identify sales opportunities through trends, colors, market research, and customer insights. Ability to translate market and trends in a commercially viable way, and articulate opportunities to buying teams.
    • Work collaboratively with the buying team to ensure all designed ranges & products align with the buyer's needs and category strategy.
    • Manage the full development cycle of all new exclusively developed products. Initiate, plan, and oversee all aspects of the garment making process from design hand-off through to TOPs (inclusive of exclusives buying team initiates). 
    • Participate in quarterly trend presentations in partnership with the product development leadership team.
    • Interpret the styles in the market and know how to translate them to the Petal & Pup customer.
    • Help product development leadership build capsule collections in collaboration with buying teams & merchandising leadership based on the timeline specified (monthly or quarterly). Collections will be built for the Australian market with global viability.
    • Create mood boards to share with both suppliers & buyers based on business needs.
    • Create CADS and/or flats of silhouettes and prints to pass off to suppliers for development.
    • Lead and manage all pre-production samples and ensure all exclusive items are meeting quality, fit, & styling requirements/standards. 
    • Work with buying team to own/present out monthly collection/stories to leadership and marketing.

Experience & Expertise

    • Have 2+ years' experience in design or product development (fast fashion is highly disireable)
    • A clear understanding of current and future trends for the Australian market.
    • Strong working knowledge on fabrics, trims, and garment construction.
    • CAD development and sketching skills.
    • Deep knowledge of the Product Development Lifecycle and all of the components within it.
    • Ability to help source new suppliers if a GAP in the supplier base is found.
