Position Overview:
Akicita Federal is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Internal Medicine Physician to provide comprehensive medical care to adult patients at the Indian Health Service facility located in Ogema, Minnesota. The ideal candidate will have experience working in rural or underserved communities and a commitment to delivering high-quality, culturally sensitive care. This position supports IHS’s mission to raise the physical, mental, social, and spiritual health of American Indians and Alaska Natives to the highest level.
$200 - $240 an hour
Key Responsibilities:
-Provide primary and specialty care to adult patients in an outpatient and/or inpatient setting.
-Diagnose and manage acute and chronic illnesses, including diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and infectious diseases.
-Order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and develop treatment plans.
-Coordinate care with other medical providers, nurses, pharmacists, and behavioral health professionals.
-Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of clinical protocols and procedures.
-Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system in accordance with IHS policies.
-Educate patients on preventive health measures, wellness, and chronic disease management.
-Participate in community outreach and culturally relevant health education efforts.
-May be required to provide on-call coverage or assist in emergency care situations as needed.
Qualifications:
-Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited institution.
-Board Certified in Internal Medicine.
-Current, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory.
-DEA License and ability to prescribe controlled substances.
-BLS and ACLS certifications (must be current).
-Minimum 3 years of clinical experience preferred; experience in tribal or rural settings is a strong plus.
-Knowledge of or willingness to learn and respect the customs, traditions, and beliefs of American Indian and Alaska Native populations.
