Position Summary:
Akicita Federal is seeking a dedicated Pharmacy Technician to support the Pharmacy Department at the Taos-Picuris Service Unit in Taos, NM. The health center provides comprehensive ambulatory outpatient services, including medical, dental, and community health. The Pharmacy Technician will support outpatient pharmacy services under the supervision of the pharmacist on duty or the Chief Pharmacist.

Key Responsibilities:
-Interpret prescription orders and accurately prepare and label medications.
-Utilize pharmacy software and Point-of-Sale (POS) systems for prescription processing, billing, and documentation.
-Perform accurate pharmaceutical mathematical calculations and conversions.
-Maintain pharmacy inventory, ensuring proper procurement, storage, and stock rotation.
-Operate pharmacy equipment including telephones, Universal drug counter, photocopiers, label printers, and computers.
-Contact healthcare providers to clarify prescriptions or complete patient insurance documentation.
-Assist with patient insurance verification and documentation to reduce billing errors.
-Monitor and resolve rejected claims by working with Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) to ensure maximum reimbursement.
-Serve as a technical resource for pharmacy billing systems, including staff orientation and ongoing training.
-Collaborate with the TPSU Patient Benefits Coordinator or Business Office designee to maintain accurate patient insurance files.
-Provide administrative and secretarial support to the pharmacy team as needed.
-Comply with Indian Health Service (IHS) pharmacy policies, procedures, and guidelines.
-Follow standard healthcare facility precautions and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
-Perform duties involving frequent standing, walking, and lifting boxes up to 50 lbs.
Qualifications:
-High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a certified pharmacy technician program preferred.
-At least 1 year of experience in a healthcare or pharmacy setting.
-Extensive knowledge of pharmaceuticals, trade/generic names, dosage forms, units of measure, and medical terminology.
-Proficiency in POS systems, insurance billing processes, and pharmacy software.
-Ability to analyze Medicaid programs and third-party insurance policies.
-Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage documentation accurately.
-Manual dexterity, good vision, and physical stamina to meet work demands.
-Strong communication and interpersonal skills for coordination with medical professionals and patients.
