Overview:
Akicita Federal is seeking a compassionate and skilled Certified Nurse Midwife to provide high-quality women’s health and obstetric care at the Gallup Indian Medical Center (GIMC). This role serves a culturally diverse patient population, with a strong focus on community-centered care and culturally sensitive practices.
Key Responsibilities:
-Provide full-scope midwifery services, including prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn, and gynecological care.
-Conduct physical examinations, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and develop evidence-based care plans.
-Manage and attend labor and deliveries, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
-Collaborate with OB/GYN physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated care.
-Offer patient education on family planning, reproductive health, breastfeeding, and newborn care.
-Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records (EHR) in accordance with IHS documentation standards.
-Participate in quality assurance programs, peer reviews, and continuing education activities.
-Provide culturally competent care, respecting the traditions and values of Native American patients.
Minimum Qualifications:
-Graduate of an accredited Nurse Midwifery program.
-Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license and Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) certification.
-Active Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications.
-Minimum of 2 years’ full-scope midwifery experience preferred; experience in IHS or rural healthcare setting is a plus.
-Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
-Strong communication, patient education, and critical thinking skills.
