The Biology group at Alector supports pipeline drug development efforts through evaluating new targets, supporting therapeutic candidate screening and selection, as well as informing indication/patient selection through designing and completing critical preclinical studies. As a Senior Scientist in Biology, you will support project teams in developing therapeutic strategies, selecting therapeutic candidates, and delineating their mechanism of action. You will develop and implement in vitro cell-based assays and oversee pre-clinical in vivo study implementation. You will identify and communicate with contract research organizations to augment our internal capabilities.

During the first year, your goals will include:

    • Identify program-relevant areas of investigation, develop, and implement experimental in vitro and in vivo strategy
    • Drive the evaluation and selection of screening assays in collaboration with the antibody engineering and protein science groups
    • Analyze, interpret, and present data to project teams and partners
    • Collaborate with scientists across multiple therapeutic areas and functions
    • Manage external collaborations or activities with CROs
    • Coordinate data management, data analysis and presentations, and contribute to decision making in a collaborative and timeline-driven manner
    • Help train and mentor junior researchers

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

    • A PhD in Immunology and/or Neuroscience with 3-5 years industry experience
    • A record of success in a cross-functional team environment
    • Cell-based assay development expertise, ideally in microglia or myeloid biology
    • Experience in lysosome and/or autophagy research is a plus
    • Experience with designing preclinical PK/PD rodent studies
    • Proficiency in cell biology and biochemistry techniques, including mammalian cell culture, protein transfection, immunofluorescence staining, histological techniques, FACS, western blot, ELISA/MSD
    • You are meticulous and have strong organizational skills in data management, timeline management
    • You have excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
    • You are excited with the prospect of positively influencing project direction and strategy by generating robust and high quality data
    • You take pride in being self-motivated and a creative problem solver, and value collaboration
    • You have a point of view, but are low ego
$120,000 - $155,000 a year
Base salary ranges will be determined by the candidate’s level, qualifications, skill set, and experience.
