Our mission is to develop therapies that empower the immune system to combat neurodegeneration and our team is focused on developing treatments for some of the most challenging diseases facing our society. We are supported in this mission by experienced and accomplished scientists and clinicians, a novel portfolio of programs, leading healthcare investors, and pharma company partners, who share in our commitment to bettering the lives of patients and realizing a world where we make brain disorders history

Reporting to the Sr. Director, People & Business Partnering, the Director, People Operations will be the main strategist for the People Team’s platforms, processes, systems, immigration, benefits programs, and everything in between. You are a “do-er” and will keep our team sewn together and collaborating on cross-team projects and ensure that the team has the tools and processes to support the company at every stage of growth. You will lead our operational evolution to be ready for commercialization. If you are a tenacious solution-driver with a passion for small and quick-moving environments, care a lot about taking care of people, and are excited by toggling up to strategic and structured thinking and down into the details, this role is for you. This role is open to hybrid working candidates with an expectation of working onsite two or three days a week at headquarters in South San Francisco, CA.

You will:

    • Lead the People Operations function in support of Alector’s goals.
    • Spend the next two to three years preparing the department to scale ahead of commercialization.
    • Understand Alector’s organizational needs and develop infrastructure, processes/policies, and workflows that are compliant, efficient, and scalable.
    • Own and coordinate the HR tech stack across operations, employee engagement, and talent acquisition. You will optimize systems and tools and help them all talk to each other to improve efficiency and maintain data integrity.
    • Develop and drive metrics and analytics to enable robust business insights. Partner with your colleagues in employee experience and talent acquisition to build our analytical capabilities.
    • Create and evolve policy, documentation, and templates. Ensure compliance with Federal and State laws as well as internal guidelines.
    • Manage all aspects of benefits administration and develop strategies to drive employee awareness and understanding of all benefit programs. Work closely with our broker and their benefits administration group to ensure responsiveness and resolution of employee benefits issues.
    • Be the primary immigration lead for Alector, working with outside counsel and our immigration firm.
    • Ad hoc work ownership that lives between functions as needed such as Learning and Development planning tasks.

We want to hear from you if this describes you:

    • Hands-on learner with natural initiative and curiosity. This individual wants to get their arms around as much as possible to grow. You LOVE a challenge!
    • You are an intelligent self-starter and care about outcomes. You love learning about the business, its goals, and how we are getting there.
    • 8-10 years of experience in people operations in high-growth, fast-paced, and progressive environments is desired. Deep experience in HR functional areas, especially systems and people technologies, process development, employment law compliance, and benefits.
    • Required experience in a commercial Biotech or Pharmaceutical company – you know what great looks like in a commercial HR organization. Bonus points if you’ve supported work to prepare an HR function for commercialization.
    • Strong analytical skills and excellence in analyzing data, thinking strategically about data implications and building an interconnected ecosystem of tools.
    • Ability to build relationships at all levels and demonstrate strong communication skills that align with our values. The “how we get stuff done” is just as important as the work itself.
    • Strong project management skills with the ability to bring sophisticated and cross-functional projects to completion (i.e. system implementations, benefits open enrollment, etc.)
    • A "wears multiple hats" fast-growing environment is exciting and motivating to you. You like wrapping your arms around a lot of varied work.
    • Embody our core value of "own it" and manage priorities with a high degree of accuracy and speed. You are decisive. Quality is super important to us and you know what great looks like!
$220,000 - $260,000 a year
Base salary ranges will be determined by the candidate’s level, qualifications, skill set, and experience.
