Our mission is to develop therapies that empower the immune system to combat neurodegeneration and our team is focused on developing treatments for some of the most challenging diseases facing our society. By harnessing advancements in genetics, immunology and neuroscience, we are pioneering the development of potential therapies to counteract the devastating progression of neurodegeneration. We are supported in this mission by experienced and accomplished scientists and clinicians, a novel portfolio of programs, leading healthcare investors, and pharma company partners, who share in our commitment to bettering the lives of patients and realizing a world where we make brain disorders history.
As an investigator in our Drug Discovery team, you will play a key role in Alector's efforts to understand the basic biology of brain disorders and translate phenomenal science into exceptional drugs. You will work closely with other scientists to validate original targets and develop innovative drugs targeting the immune cells to treat neurodegenerative disorders and cancer. You will apply your existing technical skills to carry out analyses central to Alector’s scientific discovery effort - and learn new skills along the way. You will be influential in championing and developing Alector’s culture and discovery strategy.
Core Responsibilities:
- Performing experimental work on multiple cell types including but not limited to iPSC editing, differentiation, and disease modeling.
- Keep track of experimental methods and introduce them when appropriate at internal and external forums.
- Contribute to cross functional programs by providing regular support for cell culture and experimental needs.
We'd love to hear from you if:
- You have hands on experience working with Tissue Culture and are well versed in sterile technique (experience with iPSCs is a bonus).
- You have hands-on experience in multi-color Flow Cytometry and FACS.
- You have experience in processes related to RNA extraction, RTqPCR, and sequencing.
- You have proven your ability to plan, organize and execute experiments independently.
- You take pride in being persistent, self-motivated, efficient, and well organized.
- You thrive in an environment where we work independently and on teams.
- You demonstrate a track record of learning new things and troubleshooting independently.
- You have at least 3 years of experience working in the lab including standard bench work and cell culture work.
