Our mission is to develop therapies that empower the immune system to combat neurodegeneration and our team is focused on developing treatments for some of the most challenging diseases facing our society. By harnessing advancements in genetics, immunology and neuroscience, we are pioneering the development of potential therapies to counteract the devastating progression of neurodegeneration. We are supported in this mission by experienced and accomplished scientists and clinicians, a novel portfolio of programs, leading healthcare investors, and pharma company partners, who share in our commitment to bettering the lives of patients and realizing a world where we make brain disorders history.

Alector is seeking a Senior Research Associate (SRA) in Computational Biology to join our dynamic team. Our team is dedicated to understanding the biology behind neurodegenerative diseases and discovering new therapeutic targets. You will play a key role in analyzing and interpreting complex biological data, including high-dimensional omics data and high-content imaging. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with multi-omics data analysis, image analysis, and the ability to collaborate with scientists across R&D to design and analyze data from experiments.

Core Responsibilties:

    • Collaborate with scientists across R&D and address key biological questions through the analysis of multi-omics datasets and the design of experiments
    • Manage and organize data from internal and published studies into interactive data exploration portals for internal use.
    • Develop and apply computational methods for high-content imaging and image-based analysis.
    • Apply best practices for code and data management, including workflow orchestration and version control, while identifying opportunities for process improvement.
    • Effectively communicate analysis results in verbal, visual, and written form to cross-functional teams with varying levels of technical expertise.

We'd love to hear from you if:

    • B.S. with at least 3 years of experience or M.S. with at least 1 years of experience in biotech or a relevant field (Computational Biology, Data Science, Bioinformatics, or related discipline).
    • Hands on experience analyzing high-dimensional biological datasets such as bulk and/or single-cell RNA-seq, proteomics, lipidomics, and high-content imaging. Experience mining public datasets is a plus.
    • Experience with image analysis techniques, including segmentation, feature extraction, and quantification. Experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) is a plus.
    • Proficiency in R and Python, including experience with DESeq2, Seurat, scanpy, dplyr, and tidyverse for statistical modeling and data analysis. Experience building dashboards/visualization tools is a plus (e.g., Shiny, Dash).
    • Familiarity with shell scripting, version control (Git), and cloud computing (AWS)
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Fundamental understanding of biology. Prior wet lab experience and fundamental understanding of neuroscience is a big plus.
    • Must be willing to work onsite at least three days per week.
$55 - $65 an hour
Hourly ranges will be determined by the candidate’s level, qualifications, skill set, and experience
