Position: Medical Receptionist/ Medical Assistant

Receptionist to answer telephone calls, greet patients and visitors, perform general office duties. Medical Assistant to help patients by providing information, services, and assistance. Other duties include securing medical records; maintaining medical supplies inventory; performing preventive maintenance to keep equipment operating.

Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Schedules and registers patients in a friendly and professional manner, verifies services and insurance information, stays within the vicinity of the reception area and coordinates with the Office Supervisor for any absence.
    • Answers telephone calls promptly and courteously, transfers caller to correct individual, takes complete and accurate messages when person called is unavailable and distributes messages in a timely manner.
    • Checks the answering machine in the morning and retrieves messages and delivers accordingly.
    • Prepares and maintains orderly appearance of reception area and waiting room
    • Performs additional routine clerical duties as requested Reports directly to the Office Supervisor.
    • Assists and works in conjunction with medical office staff to facilitate smooth office operations.
    • Obtain necessary patient information to update patient records and ensure accuracy
    • Set-up EKG machines, administer injections and medications, and perform routine specimen collection and tests
    • Prepare equipment and examination rooms, and clean instruments
    • Assist physician with medical treatments, procedures, and exams
    • Accompanies physician during patient care appointments
    • Records physician’s patient care dictation directly into EMR
    • Enters patient information into EMR at time of service


    • High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited medical assistance certification program preferred
    • 2-4 years of Medical Assistant experience is required, primary care is preferred
    • Excellent computer skills and EMR experience is required. EClinicalWorks experience is a plus.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and other external parties in a courteous and friendly manner at all times
    • Must be detail-oriented and highly organized
    • Firm grasp on medical practices, administrative processes, and organizational policies
    • Knowledge of patient care and examination procedures
    • Must be able to maintain confidentiality at all times
    • Possesses strong verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work independently and within a team environment and to adapt to changing patient flow schedules.
Physical Demands: Ability to communicate with customers, vendors, management, and coworkers, regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential and no heavy lifting is expected.

Work Environment: The job is performed indoors in a traditional office setting. Activities include extended periods of sitting and extensive work at a computer monitor and phone.
