We seek a Director of Software Engineering to manage a world-class team of software engineers, driving alignment towards critical objectives, prioritizing and sequencing team efforts, and providing direction and mentorship to team members. In this role, you will work closely with the CTO, VP of Software, VP of Hardware, Head of Product, and Head of Manufacturing.

In this role, you will:

    • Ensure the software team consistently achieves timeline commitments with high quality products.
    • Manage a high-morale, motivated software team that exhibits exceptional internal collaboration.
    • Prioritize team tasks and help remove blockers.
    • Drive alignment towards critical project objectives, delegating and sequence team efforts.
    • Define, create, and maintain streamlined and transparent engineering standards and development processes.
    • Run team meetings and development cycles (e.g. sprints, standups).Grow the team through hiring initiatives, direct mentorship, and coaching.
    • Foster an optimistic, accountable, and collaborative culture.

You're a good fit if you have:

    • At least eight years of professional experience managing high-performance, technical teams of size at least 15.
    • Held a Head/Director/VP-level role before (have managed managers).
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Competency in project management, driving effective prioritization, timeline estimation, and coordination of work phases with cross functional teams (particularly hardware, electrical, manufacturing).
    • A deep understanding of what roles are needed and how to organize the team to service different phases of the product lifecycle (POC, Prototype, Scaling) and different phases of product development (design, build, test, deploy).
    • A passion for effective prioritization / coordination of work phases and driving continuous improvement.
    • Strong software intuition for faster decision making, working with technical leads to guide designs without extensive analysis.
    • Familiarity with objective Python / C++ development and cloud architecture.
