About the Position:
The Medical Support Assistant under the direction of the Registered Nurse will have responsibilities including welcoming new students, maintaining and recording medical data in student files, controlling student medical accounts, and handling scheduling.

What You Will Do:

    • Answering phone calls and emails and delivering messages to staff members.
    • Facilitating self-administering medication protocols including monitoring the dispensing of medication according to scheduled work hours.
    • Welcoming new students, answering basic questions, and directing them to the correct departments.
    • Maintaining student records and updating their medical data, both manually and electronically.
    • Organizing the paperwork and opening files for new students.
    • Verifying students' insurance information.
    • Assisting Nurse and Medical Assistant with student examinations, as needed.
    • Assists in urinalysis testing, reporting, and documenting to internal and external partners and/or other agencies as required.
    • Collecting and documenting students’ basic health information, including height, weight, and vital signs, for the Nurse to review during examinations.
    • Assist with managing inventory of medical supplies and including tracking of student medications, disposal of old/outdated, refills, picking up medications and ensuring that the Wellness Center is stocked with appropriate supplies.
    • Recording Nurse and Doctors' orders regarding student care and scheduling the appointments.
    • Assist in tracking inventory and ordering supplies.
    • Attending workshops, meetings, and trainings as requested by supervisor.
    • May serve as Community Advocate role in addition to job as requested by community leadership.   
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What You Will Bring:

    • Education and Experience:
    • Required:
    • High School diploma or equivalent G.E.D.
    • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Electronic Medical Record, or similar software.
    •  
    • Preferred:
    • Experience with the fundamentals of the Therapeutic Teaching Community.
    • Understand of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse.
    •  
    • Certifications or Licenses:
    • Required:
    • Valid AZDPS Fingerprint Clearance card.
    • Current valid CPR and First Aid certification.
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) & ESR (Emergency Service Response) certification.
    • Tuberculosis test from health professional.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidential information.
    • Ability to operate general office equipment.
    • Demonstrates an understanding of human emotions with a high level of empathy.

    • Demonstrates skill in patience, active listening and interest in diverse life stories. 
    • Good verbal and written communication skills with a genuine enthusiasm for helping people.
    • Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectively under pressure generated by association with substance abuse students.
    • Demonstrates proper attitudes and techniques and techniques to residential students
