We've developed the Ampd Enertainer, an advanced, compact and connected battery energy storage system (BESS) to replace the dirty, noisy and hazardous diesel generators that power the world's construction. We are seeking a product leader to steer Ampd Energy’s hardware product vision, focusing on hardware solutions encompassing batteries, power electronics, edge controllers, and edge-to-cloud capabilities. This critical role involves spearheading the development and commercialization of hardware solutions and services, establishing OEM partnerships, and ensuring compliance with market operating requirements. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, customers, and industry partners to drive innovation and deliver market-leading energy storage solutions.
Responsibilities
Deep Technical Expertise:
- Possess a strong engineering and technical background and understanding of the hardware aspects of BESSs including batteries, power electronics and electrical subsystems, energy management systems, and associated controls.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in energy storage and utilization, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the technical landscape.
Hardware Product Vision:
- Drive the strategic whole-product vision for hardware product development, aligning with Ampd Energy’s overarching goals.
Roadmap Development:
- Develop and maintain comprehensive multi-horizon roadmaps and product requirements documents (PRDs) for hardware platforms, including BESSs, edge controllers, and edge-to-cloud capabilities, tailored to diverse markets and use cases.
- Maintain strategic Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) that extend Ampd Energy’s competitive advantage and address marketplace trajectories.
Partnerships and Relationships:
- Foster OEM partnerships and strategic relationships, especially with upstream vendors of key BESS components and subsystems.
Project Management and Leadership:
- Demonstrate a proven track record in Agile Product Management, showcasing experience in implementing Agile methodologies for effective and dynamic product development.
- Drive iterative and flexible approaches in hardware product development, leveraging proven principles to adapt to changing requirements and market dynamics.
Compliance Assurance:
- Ensure energy storage systems, edge controllers, and edge-to-cloud components, comply with interconnection and market operating requirements.
Collaboration with Engineering and Data Science:
- Collaborate with engineering and data science teams to enhance storage and control hardware capabilities, fostering innovation.
- Having both breadth and depth in understanding of electrical engineering principles will be key for this.
Commercial Product Management Expansion:
- Expand commercial product management responsibilities by actively collaborating with product marketing and sales teams.
- Work closely with product marketing to align product features and benefits with market needs and customer expectations.
- Collaborate with the sales team to develop effective sales strategies, providing product expertise and supporting customer engagements.
Representation:
- Represent Ampd Energy’s offerings in customer settings, trade venues, and industry forums, showcasing thought leadership.
Required Experience
- 10+ years in product management, OEM partnerships, and product commercialization of BESSs, power controls and associated Edge hardware components.
- Expertise in strategic guidance, objective analysis, planning, budgeting, and development in emerging energy storage technology.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and nurture Ampd Energy sales, marketing, distribution and skunkworks partnerships, and partnerships with vendors of key BESS components and subsystems.
- Deep knowledge of power sector trends and applications for BESSs, and control hardware.
- Knowledge spanning engineering, vendors of key BESSs components and subsystems, partner networks, sales, customer operations, finance, and marketing.
- Strong interpersonal skills with multi-functional team alignment capabilities.
Preferred Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; Master’s degree or PhD.
- International product management experience.
- Proven experience in Agile Product Management with 5+ years of successful implementation in hardware product development; you understand how to marry the interplay of Agile and Waterfall project management.
