A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT) is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to join our Transportation Engineering team in one of our Mid-Atlantic office locations of Herndon, VA, Richmond, VA, Towson, MD, Rockville, MD, and Washington, DC. Location can be flexible for the right candidate

The Senior Traffic Engineer responsibilities will involve leading traffic engineering services for the firm in Virginia with VDOT and other clients. Anticipated projects include traffic studies involving operations analysis, safety investigation, intersection and corridor operation, development traffic impact studies, and feasibility and design reports.

This professional position will also direct traffic engineering design services involving traffic signals, signing and pavement markings, and temporary traffic control for transportation projects.

Candidates must demonstrate a high-level understanding of traffic operations and traffic design, identify and develop creative technical solutions, and exercise excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills. Oversight, mentorship, and management support of traffic staff will be essential to delivering assignment on-time.  Candidates must have the ability to be highly responsive to clients.

The ideal candidate is someone who can compete for and win projects and develop a sustainable traffic engineering team that is able to undertake and deliver a variety of projects.

Project assignments can range from small-scale intersection improvements to complex interchanges and corridors. Specific assignments would include traffic operations analysis, modeling, micro-simulation, capacity analysis, safety studies, transportation planning studies, and design of traffic control devices including signals, signing, pavement markings, ITS devices and lighting.  Applicant should be intimately familiar with the HCM and HSM and possess a variety of traffic analysis computer skills.

Qualifications

    • BSCE with a minimum of 10 years of experience in traffic engineering
    • Licensed as a PE (VA registration preferred), Licensed as a PTOE through ITE
    • High-level understanding of traffic modeling (macro, meso, and micro) experience in model development and application
    • Experience with VISSIM, VISUM, HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, SIDRA; experience in the design of traffic control signals, signing, pavement markings, ITS devices and lighting
    • Experience working with Microstation and /or AutoCAD is a Plus
    • Exceptional communication, technical writing, presentation, and organizational skills; positive attitude and willingness to work cooperatively with others; experience in project management and contract management
    • Excellent business development skills including proposals and client development
