Amyris seeks to hire an Intern for the Biology group, located in Emeryville, CA, who will be responsible for strain engineering activities. The intern will work on a project under the mentorship of a scientist, working as part of a team to optimize the performance, robustness, and testing of engineered microbes in small scale and industrial fermentation conditions.
 
Responsibilities:
-               Perform experiments to modify microbial metabolism for high production of target compounds
-               Develop and/or perform assays and screens for characterizing modified micro-organisms
-               Create DNA constructs and transform these into microbial hosts
-               Prepare technical reports, summaries, and protocols
-               Present work at internal meetings
 
Basic Qualifications:
-               Minimum degree: PhD candidates at any stage in the PhD education program
-               Minimum 2 years of experience working in a laboratory
-               Background in metabolic engineering, microbial physiology, or molecular genetics
Preferred Qualifications:
-               Familiarity with basic cloning techniques
-               The Summer Intern Program has flexible start dates between May and June and we ideally like for our interns to work 10-12 weeks.

The hourly pay range for this role is $23 to $36. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis, and will vary based on the candidate’s skills, depth of experience and specific work location.
