Amyris is seeking a Senior Director Packaging, who will lead a small Packaging development team in partnership with brand stakeholders to ensure cost-effective, world-class packaging design, quality and execution in alignment with Supply Chain, Engineering and Brand leaders.

Responsibilities:

    • Drive sustainable packaging thinking, practices, goals and execution into all owned brands to meet our internal objectives for 2025/2030.
    • Lead the development of packaging for new and re-launched products meeting product development calendar deadlines, cost of goods and supply chain risk management needs.
    • Streamline efficiencies and collaborations between Marketing, Creative, Operations and packaging manufacturers on all aspects of development and/or redevelopment.
    • Implement design change strategy and process to be used across all brands if needed
    • Partner with brand creative on primary packaging briefs and brief vendors and attain packaging samples, pricing and materials.
    • Develop secondary and tertiary packaging.
    • Manage packaging requests, supplier/packaging comparisons and recommendations to brand leaders on how to move forward.
    • Work with team on gathering all component samples for compatibility and marketing needs.
    • Create all assembly instructions for kits and finished goods to be shared with manufacturers and the distribution center.
    • Research and stay up to date with all sustainability packaging initiatives and present to internal team.
    • Perform all packaging due diligence tests.
    • Partner with QA on any packaging quality issues.
    • Must be able to travel to headquarters (California) every 4-6 weeks.

Basic Qualifications:

    • B.S. Degree in Packaging Engineering or related field of study.
    • 15+ years of packaging development experience working on skincare, cosmetic or consumer packaged goods products.

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Full working knowledge of materials, tooling and manufacturing processes for Plastic, Glass, Aluminum and Paper.
    • Deep understanding of production, manufacturing, product integrity & production cycle timelines.
    • Ability to perform high quality work in an efficient manner.
    • Ability to tackle complex projects under tight timelines while maintaining a positive attitude.
    • Passion for clean products, sustainability and biotechnology/science preferred.
    • Excellent Communication skills with the ability to simplify high complexity situations.
    • Highly organized, detail orientated with strong follow through of deliverables.
    • People Management, Coaching, Mentoring, recognition program and managing Performance.
    • Experience in leading project management efforts building timeline and negotiating milestones using MS Project.
    • Ability to read a technical drawing and perform stack-up Analysis.
    • Experience with designing Packaging using 3D software such as SolidWorks.
    • Experience with Packaging Testing in Lab environment.
    • Experience with building COGs for new products and knowledge of basic Financials.
    • Fluent communication, presentation, interpersonal and analytical skills
    • Fluency in Portuguese is a plus.

The annual pay range for this role is $136000 to $265000. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis, and will vary based on the candidate’s skills, depth of experience and specific work location.  This role is also eligible for incentive pay, equity in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) and stock options.
