Amyris No Compromise™ renewable fuels and chemicals are being designed to perform comparably to, or better than, the products they will replace. 

Amyris is seeking a highly-motivated and collaborative Quality Assurance Engineer II to develop and implement quality systems across global sites for our direct to consumer Clean Beauty brands.  The Quality Assurance Engineer II will be responsible for: (1) ensuring primary/secondary containers, bulk formulation, and finished goods are within specifications, (2) implementing and upkeep of appropriate quality tracking records, (3) leading the investigation of and correcting non-conformances, and (4) supporting new product development teams by implementing Quality Management Systems (QMS). The QMS’s will span across functions including suppliers, customer care, manufacturing, CMO’s, new product development.  The successful candidate will have excellent cross-functional communication skills in interfacing with multiple groups.  In addition, experience interfacing with external collaborators to support manufacturing and scale-up activities is required.


    • Develop and implement quality systems across customer groups, manufacturing and supplier sites.
    • Ensure alignment of product testing with product requirements to ensure delivery of product that meets specifications.
    • Reviews Master Batch Records, change control, validation and qualification documents.
    • Generates Incident Reports, Change Controls and CAPA reports, including logging, reviewing adequacy of root cause, corrections, corrective actions, preventative actions and effectiveness till closure.
    • Perform testing and inspection at various stages of production, including visual and dimensional inspection.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of basic manufacturing concepts and processes.
    • Complete First Article Inspections as well as receiving, in-process, and final packaging inspections with minimal supervision. 
    • Maintain appropriate quality tracking records (certificates of analyses, control charts, calibration records etc.).
    • Support disposition of product as necessary to support business development.
    • Provide final release authority on all customer products and samples.
    • Ability to travel as needed approximately 25% of time.

Basic Qualifications:

    • 4+ years of Quality Assurance experience in Cosmetic or Food Manufacturing.
    • BS in Chemistry or Engineering degree.

    • Energetic, highly self-motivated and able to work efficiently and productively in a rapidly-growing company.
    • Strong ability to evaluate processes and to facilitate effective change.
    • Excellent cross-functional collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong project management skills.
    • Ability to work independently to support quality goals.
    • Proficiency in writing and oral presentations.
    • Food Safety and Direct to Consumer qualification and compliance experience is a plus.

The annual pay range for this role is $78,000-$131,000. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis, and will vary based on the candidate’s skills, depth of experience and specific work location.
