Reporting into the Chief People Officer, the Compensation & Benefits Leader is the thought partner to envision and influence the design, effective operationalization, and communication of all plans for Amyris globally.
The C&B Leader has developed their skills through hand-on experience in market-based compensation and benefits development. They have learned through a series of experiences in applying market-based, data to develop base salary, bonus and other incentive infrastructure and administrative process. Working with a global benefits broker and skilled benefits administration team, they have led analyses, budgeting/planning and implementation of new or enhanced benefit plans to meet business change, expansion and cost-optimizing activities.
Due to the size of Amyris, pace of growth and change, the leader must be an effective visionary and influencer while ensuring practical, scalable, systems-supported solutions. A leader who can function at the “big-picture and big data” level as well as “dig in” with a bias-to-action to solve problems with urgency while thinking critically about the source of the challenge and apply continuous improvement to process and practice. Functioning with a small team, the role requires a leader who can set and communicate priorities, empower the team and facilitate cross-functional collaboration to produce results. They bring a global mindset and the credibility and presence to influence decision-makers including Executives, Board of Directors and key business unit leaders.
Key responsibilities of this position include the development and administration of the company’s base pay, short- and long-term incentive programs, executive pay, benefits programs & vendor management, employee well-being and recognition platform.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the strategic design, implementation, communication, and administration of the base salary, short-term incentive and total cash programs in all needed geographic and sector markets.
- Leverage current and envision new total compensation philosophy and practice to ensure competitive pay positioning that supports the acquisition and retention of top talent.
- Work closely with business leaders and people leaders to ensure compensation and benefit programs are properly designed and administered in such a way to ensure Amyris’ ability to attract, develop and retain top talent.
- Develop and administer the company’s compensation philosophy including base pay, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, promotions, pay-for-performance, and executive compensation
- Lead the development and implementation of a job architecture and career laddering framework to to promote both self-directed and manager-led professional growth and compensation opportunity.
- Lead the annual compensation planning cycles; provide expert counsel on the design, development and administration of executive and employee compensation programs, salary structures, base salary adjustments and short term and long-term incentives.
- Oversee and direct, the Board of Directors Leadership, Development, Inclusion & Compensation Committee (LDICC) quarterly meeting material compilation and distribution. Effectively collaborate with Chief People Office and General counsel and external Board consultants to ensure all Committee Charter items are addressed, documented and presented for consideration, review and/or approval.
- Collaborate with Finance, Legal, Consumer, and other functions to ensure Amyris’ incentive plans programs are effectively communicated and understood to drive for performance.
- Oversee and direct benefits plan documents, plan design, implementation, administration, open enrollment, communications, and compliance.
- Oversee and direct the annual benefits review. planning and open enrolment processes globally, including recommendation and costing of plan design changes, articulating risks and opportunities, and gaining approval for changes and/or budget with leadership and Board, if applicable.
- Design, vet, budget and implement practices, administrative approach, eligibility guidelines for a variety of cash awards, including recognition awards, spot, signing and retention bonus approaches, including budget development and program enhancements as needed.
- Ensure HR-related compliance, including new policy development and adoption/implementation of new/updated compliance requirements to meet local, state, federal governing laws; participate in OFCCP audits as required.
- Prepare and present analyses, materials and recommendations to senior leadership, executive team, and other employees, as needed and as appropriate.
- Maintain tight relationships with peers located across the company, to ensure continuity of programs and to share best practices.
- Develop programs, tools, and practices to help better manage costs across compensation and benefits.
- Act as a key member of leadership team that contributes to objectives, and key results across the People Team, that are rewards specific.
- Build, lead, and coach a highly effective total rewards team.
- Partner with Talent Acquisition and HRBP teams to advise and influence on competitive and equitable pay practices.
- Provide education, mentoring and training to HR staff on processes and professional practices within the total rewards process and will directly interact with all levels of employees.
- Growth mindset, sense of curiosity and strong problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail, organization, and the highest standards for accuracy and precision.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills across all levels, with an ability to persuade and influence. Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion and maintain confidentiality.

Basic Qualifications:
- 15+ years of experience with compensation and benefit plan design, administration, communication and related change management and technology support. Must include team leadership experience.
- Public company experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Academic credentials with a focus in human resources management preferred.
- Strong leadership history in complex and changing environments with demonstrated ability to gain trust and support from cross-functional peers and teams.
- High degree of analytical capability and ability to present complex information in a streamlined and easy to understand format, considering all possible options.
- Ability to maintain a balanced and objective point-of-view, and to influence at the executive level.
- Ability to look at business challenges and see how they can translate into a solution centered on rewards.
- Ability to work with a level of ambiguity and still make decisions when not all variables are known.
- Strong professional interpersonal written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional change management skills and a track record of effectively driving change initiatives.

Amyris is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.
The annual pay range for this role is $222,000 to $410,500. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis, and will vary based on the candidate’s skills, depth of experience and specific work location. This role is also eligible for incentive pay, equity in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) and stock options.
