We are looking for a Financial Analyst to join our Finance team in Portugal. As our company, revenue, and team continue to grow, we are searching for an individual who thrives on challenges, has a keen eye for detail, and desires to make a significant impact across our organization in a dynamic role. Your responsibilities will include overseeing all financial activities specific to the Portuguese entity, encompassing monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reporting, as well as managing accounts receivable and accounts payable. You will also ensure compliance with all tax and fiscal obligations, maintaining accurate and timely financial records in alignment with local regulations and international accounting standards. In addition, you will collaborate closely with several Finance Team members, providing financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making. Furthermore, you will liaise with external accountants, auditors, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with all statutory requirements. Technical Skills:

    • Assist in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities for Portuguese legal entity and other group entities 
    • Perform day-to-day accounting activities, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and preparation of monthly and quarterly equity and payroll expense workpapers for the Company’s payroll and equity-related accounts
    • Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data in accordance with Portuguese GAAP (SNC) and US GAAP
    • Prepare monthly intercompany reconciliations and settle outstanding balances in a timely manner 
    • Maintain the integrity of balance sheet accounts through preparation and review of reconciliations, verifying account activity and balances for accuracy and reasonableness
    • Analyze and process accounts payable in a timely manner. Investigate and resolve problems associated with processing of invoices
    • Assist the outsourced local accountants in ensuring the accuracy of the general ledger maintained under Portuguese GAAP (SNC). This includes reviewing the reconciliation between the US GAAP and Portuguese GAAP prepared by the outsourced local accountants
    • Support coordination of internal and external audits by providing documentation and explanations as needed
    • Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations and communicate potential impact
    • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and implement effective controls to mitigate financial risks

Complexity and Impact of Work:

    • Collaborate with process owners to understand the Company’s risks and controls and contribute to build a solid control environment to support our high growth business
    • Work on complex accounting issues where problems are not clearly defined and where fundamental principles or historical precedent may not fully apply, such as the recording of crypto transactions
    • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in the face of uncertainty and ambiguity, to reach conclusions and move the business forward 
    • Be accountable for the output of the accounting policies and procedures by reviewing material entries prior to finalizing financial reporting, ensuring high-quality output and execution
    • Lead or be involved in the application for financial funds and incentives offered by the Portuguese Government or European Union, leveraging opportunities to enhance the company's financial position and support growth initiatives

Organizational Knowledge:

    • Have a deep understanding of Anchorage’s strategy and its various business lines. Actively engage with different groups to comprehend historical transactions and requirements for implementing the global strategy going forward
    • Collaborate with other team members across Finance as well as cross-functionally to develop plans for meeting business needs and promote a shared understanding of Anchorage’s needs 
    • Work on complex accounting issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of the company
    • Understand the complexities of our business, particularly in Portugal, and stay informed about the incentives provided by the Portuguese Government and/or the European Union

Communication and Influence:

    • Communicate effectively complex issues with clarity and credibility across a wide range of audiences
    • Build effective relationships and rapport with stakeholders including other team members, team managers, cross-functional partners, and external partners. 
    • Communicate, organize and execute on cross-team goals and projects, leveraging relationships and resources across functions to address problems effectively.

You may be a fit for this role if you have:

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration, or related field
    • 4+ years of experience in financial management, reporting, accounting or audit, with a focus on multinational companies
    • Strong knowledge of Portuguese GAAP Proficiency in financial systems and software (e.g. Netsuite, SAP, Hyperion etc.)
    • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate extensively across all levels of organization
    • Fluency in English and Portuguese (both written and spoken)

Although not a requirement, bonus points if you:

    • Have Experience working in a Big 4 firm
    • Are a Chartered Accountant (Contabilista Certificado) or equivalent
    • Kept up to date with the proliferation of blockchain and crypto innovations.
    • Have experience with tax compliance and reporting requirements in Portugal 
    • Have experience implementing an ERP system such as Netsuite, SAP, or Oracle
    • Have familiarity with standard Portuguese payroll reports
    • Have been emotionally moved by the soundtrack to Hamilton, which chronicles the founding of a new financial system :)
