Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built, and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a real-time, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.

Anduril’s Airborne Systems Team is seeking a Senior Controls & Navigation Engineer. The Airborne Systems team is responsible for developing, testing, and deploying cutting-edge airborne infrared imaging sensors and products.

As a Senior Controls & Navigation Engineer you will design, integrate, and test algorithms relating to the navigation, control, tracking, stabilization, and/or servo control for our airborne sensor systems. You will develop, verify, and validate performance models and simulations across a range of environmental conditions. Responsibilities will span from system-level trade studies to supporting both ground and flight test efforts. If you are someone who excels in a fast-paced role and has a passion for making sure the “right” system is developed, then this role is for you.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

    • Develop navigation & control techniques for airborne sensors on autonomous vehicles
    • Develop models of stabilized pointing systems to predict closed-loop system performance
    • Create, own, and maintain 6-DOF simulations
    • Perform navigation/tracking error analyses to ensure system performance in real world scenarios
    • Work closely with the hardware and software teams to define requirements, integrate software, and test system functionality in simulation
    • Review test data captured from flight tests to perform post-flight reconstruction/analysis to validate simulation/models
    • Work in all phases of the system development cycle including detail design, integration and test
    • Broadly apply Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) techniques to airborne infrared sensor systems to enable desired mission behaviors.
    • Work with a multi-disciplinary team on challenging problems in a fast-paced environment

    • Expertise in classical control theory, inertial measurement units, encoders, and/or actuators
    • Proficient at developing 6-DOF simulations
    • MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, and/or Python proficiency
    • Experience with flight test data analysis
    • Strong analytical & critical thinking and problem-solving skills and an ability to communicate ideas clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
    • Must be able to obtain and hold a U.S. Top security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • MS or PHD in Aerospace Engineering or a related field
    • Experience with optical/infrared sensor systems
    • Experience with gimbal systems, visual inertial odometry, and/or star-tracking systems
    • Experience with Software-In-The-Loop and Hardware-In-The-Loop Simulation
