Role Summary
 
Angaza is hiring a Global People Operations Director to join our leadership team. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, hands-on leader excited to establish and implement a people strategy that translates between San Francisco, Nairobi, and future regional offices. At Angaza, People Operations works with every department in the company to create a vibrant culture that promotes individual growth and positive collaboration. The  Global People Operations Director will build on an existing foundation to create or enhance all aspects of our people strategy including human resources, performance management, talent acquisition, employee engagement and retention, employee resource allocation, compensation, benefits, manager training, and culture initiatives. The position will be remote, reporting to the CFO, and will require occasional global travel.

Responsibilities

    • Cultivate and deepen our company culture;
    • Work collaboratively with the executive team on all people related matters to ensure the company has the talent, processes/systems, and policies necessary to support our strategic and financial goals; 
    • Drive the implementation of scalable initiatives aimed at empowering our managers, fostering a culture of effective leadership and collaboration; 
    • Ensure that the executive team has the "pulse of the company" in order to make proactive and effective organizational decisions;
    • Manage employee relations issues for U.S., Kenya, and international staff, including coordinating and engaging with country office People Operations team members. 
    • In conjunction with our legal department and local counsel, ensure compliance with U.S., Kenya, and international labor laws, supporting audits as necessary;
    • Provide tools and guidelines to support and implement policies and procedures, local employment agreements, development of HRIS, field office employee manuals, benefit summaries, and compensation guidelines; 
    • Maintain a high-quality central HR function, including the use of metrics and data to inform key decisions;
    • Manage the recruitment, selection, and on-boarding processes for all new staff across the globe. Work with management to forecast staffing needs and ensure the selection of the right candidates for all positions;
    • In consultation with the legal department, resolve complex employee relations issues (such as harassment and discrimination allegations) in a balanced, fair and objective manner, using appropriate counseling, investigative, intervention, and mediation techniques;
    • Lead the development and implementation of employee engagement and retention strategies, including mentoring, professional development, and succession planning;
    • Expand the performance management framework, including training for global staff;
    • Manage compensation and benefits administration across international offices, ensuring fair and equitable payment practices across all job functions;
    • Manage and grow our People Operations team in the U.S. and Kenya;
    • Other HR related tasks and initiatives as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications

    • 8+ years experience in a People Operations/HR role; experience designing and implementing People Operations at a high-growth start-up and experience managing across international offices a major plus
    • Bachelor’s degree; higher degree or related certifications a plus
    • A self-starter and comfortable with building systems and processes from scratch. 
    • Experience working in technology/fintech/digital lending is highly desirable, amplifying your ability to navigate the dynamic challenges and innovative culture of our global team.
    • Expert understanding of employment law, compensation, benefits, organizational development, employee relations, and training; comfort with HR systems and tools (ATS, HRIS, etc.)
    • Comfortable operating in international business settings; ability to attend to local norms for establishing strong relationships 
    • A natural coach and mentor who relates well with others, listens effectively and can build rapport with a diverse and global team
    • Enthusiastic and creative leader with the ability to inspire others
    • Experience being goal-oriented and comfortable measuring your team’s success by quantitative performance

Salary Range
Angaza provides a salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, with local adjustments due to the cost of living. The target salary range is $120,000-$150,000 per year. This role is also eligible for equity compensation as part of the standard package.
