We are seeking a High Voltage Mid-Level Structural Engineer with 3–7 years of experience to support the design and delivery of foundation and structural systems across a range of infrastructure and renewable energy projects. You’ll work closely with senior engineers and contribute to projects from concept through construction, with a primary focus on structural design for solar tracker systems, equipment pads, and site development structures.

This position is ideal for someone with strong technical fundamentals, work ethic, and a desire to grow into a leadership role.

Structural Design & Engineering:

    • Participate in structural engineering efforts for utility substation projects including control enclosures, transformer foundations, dead-end structures, capacitor banks, and static masts
    • Review project documents and develop structural Basis of Design (BOD), including loads, design codes, geotechnical inputs, and material assumptions
    • Design and size shallow and deep foundations (e.g., spread footings, drilled piers, embedded posts) based on geotechnical recommendations and equipment loads
    • Perform load calculations (dead, live, wind, seismic) and develop structural models using accepted FEA tools (e.g., RISA, RAM, STAAD)
    • Coordinate with geotechnical engineers to integrate foundation performance assumptions and loading capacities (e.g., LPILE, MFAD inputs)
    • Prepare structural drawings, elevations, details, and specifications using AutoCAD and/or Revit for each milestone (30%, 60%, 90%, IFC)

Client & Vendor Coordination:

    • Coordinate with electrical engineers, control enclosure vendors, transformer manufacturers, and structure suppliers to obtain and interpret structural performance requirements
    • Support client-facing meetings to present a design approach and resolve technical comments
    • Review vendor-supplied structural performance requirements and incorporate into foundation and anchorage design
    • Respond to RFIs and submittals related to structural foundations, design assumptions, and special inspections

Other Areas of Focus:

    • Provide input on internal design standards, templates, and QA/QC processes for substation projects
    • Assist in developing resource plans, scopes, and estimates for future HV structural projects
    • Collaborate with civil and geotechnical teams to ensure fully integrated substation site design
    • Stay current on relevant codes (IBC, ASCE 7, NESC, etc.), utility standards, and AHJ requirements

Team Collaboration & Growth:

    • Coordinate with internal geotechnical and civil teams for integrated design
    • Attend internal design meetings and client calls as needed to stay aligned with project objectives
    • Receive mentorship from senior engineers with the opportunity to gradually take on more responsibility
    • Participate in internal learning, development, and project closeout reviews

While the focus of this role is in renewable energy, you’ll also support general structural engineering work, including:

    • While the focus of this role is in renewable energy, you’ll also support general structural engineering work, including:
    • Analysis of structures for wind, snow, and seismic loads using ASCE 7 and IBC
    • Structural design for deep and shallow foundations (e.g., spread footings, piers, caissons)
    • Design and detailing of framing systems and structural components in steel, concrete, aluminum, FRP, and masonry
    • Structural condition assessments and live load evaluations
    • Coordination with manufacturers and development of foundation designs for prefabricated structures
    • Construction support including review of change orders, submittals, and field questions

Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
    • EIT certification required, PE in progress preferred
    • 3–7 years of experience in structural design, with exposure to foundation engineering, energy, or infrastructure projects
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with structural software (e.g., RISA, RAM, STAAD) preferred
    • Working knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI standards
    • Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and willingness to learn
    • Willingness to travel (10–15%) for occasional site visits or field support
