We are looking for Communication System Engineers to join our growing Transportation team!

Duties & Responsibilities

    • Execute aspects of required field and office engineering work including, but not limited to the following: inspection of construction operations; contract change order (CCO) preparation, review, and analysis; responding to Request for Information (RFI).
    • Perform quality assurance inspections to achieve compliance with contract plans and specifications on all phases of communication construction, such as utility relocations, electrical installation sign installation and read and interpret plans, specifications, and other construction documents.
    • Review submittals, including shop drawings, product data, test samples, construction work plans and job hazard analysis.
    • Participate in various meetings both on site and off site. 
    • Perform daily field inspection of communication infrastructure construction to ensure compliance with approved plans and specifications.  Review and interpret electrical schematics and detailed shop drawings. 
    • Coordinate sampling and testing of various construction materials.
    • Ensure approved materials are received and correctly incorporated within the project.
    • Monitor, coordinate, and enforce construction compliance with contract documents, safety regulations, and environmental documents.
    • Identify non-compliant work and takes appropriate action to bring back into compliance.
    • Immediately report critical issues and/or possible delays to the supervisor or lead Project Manager.
    • Monitor and document all construction equipment, personnel, and activities.
    • Maintain an awareness of safety and health requirements and assuring compliance of applicable regulations and contract provisions for the protection of the public and construction project personnel.
    • Perform calculations from the plans verifying various elements of electrical components are adequate. 
    • Perform supervision, performs inspection, testing, and recommend repairs of electronic equipment on the right of way and other public locations.  Examples include, but are not limited to  advanced electronic equipment, public address equipment, voice and data communication, telephone, fiber optics, CCTV, security alarms, fire detection and suppression, digital microwave, and computer systems. 
    • Respond to equipment or electronic failure, troubleshooting, determine root cause, and support restoration of service.  Maintain records and prepares reports of inspection, testing, and repairs.
    • Ensure all changes and/or modifications are noted on the final plans.
    • Communicate and coordinate effectively with various contractors, entities, clients, and regulatory agencies.
    • Perform constructability review of design plans at relates to all electrical and communication systems. 
    • Knowledge of LA Metro Rail Design Criteria (MRDC).
    • Experience working in an active Rail Yard is desirable.   

Required Qualifications & Education

    • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a degree in Electrical Engineering. OR Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in any course, but with additional two (5) years of experience in the duties above to compensate.
    • PE Registration in the State of California desirable. 
    • Experience with LA METRO practices, policies, and procedures.
    • Experience in LA METRO communication system construction projects.
    • Knowledge and experience with the equipment used in systems construction inspection, surveying, field testing of construction materials, and construction office engineering.
    • Knowledge of LA Metro Standard Plans, Standard Specifications, and Metro’s RE Manual.

Preferred Qualifications

    • Coordination with other LA Metro Projects.
    • Knowledge of Communication as it relates to Light Rail Systems
    • Experience in Change Order Negotiations
    • Understanding of LA Metro Construction, Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Critical Path, and overall Schedule components. 
    • Experience in SCADA and Fire Alarm/Fire systems.
$150,000 - $180,000 a year
Pay may be more or less depending on experience, skills, education, or geographical location.
