Chief Cost Estimator - Data Centers

Duties & Responsibilities

    • Participate in project and design reviews to review and analyze designs, construction plans, specifications, timelines and other documentation to accurately estimate construction costs for data center projects.
    • Create detailed cost estimates by identifying project requirements including General Contractor, materials, labor, and equipment costs.
    • Perform detailed quantity take-offs
    • Develop and maintain cost databases and historical cost data for data center construction projects.
    • Collaborate with owners, architects, engineers, consultants, engineers, and contractors to develop accurate construction cost estimates.
    • Partner collaboratively with cross-functional teams (design engineering, construction, cost controls functions, scheduling, finance, etc.) to understand requirements and ensure alignment to scope, schedule, and budget.
    • Understand the key aspects of legacy and modern data center construction systems and apply this knowledge to identify improvement areas of value engineering and defining/tracking construction cost performance metrics in existing and next-generation data center.
    • Advise on the creation and improvement of data center basis of design & project specifications to drive standardization in the data center cost performance.
    • Advise on infrastructure construction cost strategy, innovation and implementation.
    • Provide expert review of the constructability of next generation data center designs, cost, and schedule/sequence of construction.
    • Analyze schedule and design variations of civil, structural, architectural, electrical and mechanical designs associated with the construction of new data centers or optimization/retrofit of existing data centers.
    • Review bid summaries, schedules and milestones, labor pricing, and perform subcontractor evaluations.
    • Design, advise and/or implement processes related to cost control, change management, progress and performance reporting.
    • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to data center construction.
    • Be proactive in looking for ways to improve the delivery of our services to our clients

Minimum Requirements

    • 15+ years of experience as an Estimator in Construction
    • 5+ years of development of Data Center estimates, including ground-up hyperscale deployments.
    • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline, Construction, Construction Management, Architecture, or other applicable degree or experience
    • Capability to perform all forms and types of estimates from parametric to bottoms up and high level what-if scenarios.
    • Strong understanding of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) disciplines
    • Experience working with highly complex projects.
    • Experience estimating a highly complex pursuit valued at $250+ million in a lump sum, T&M, GMP, and/or design-build delivery model.
    • Knowledgeable in principles of architecture, engineering and construction
    • Knowledgeable in building systems and components
    • Knowledgeable in the use of historical cost data, cost data publications, and RS Means Cost Data
    • Knowledgeable in the construction classification systems of MasterFormat and Uniformat II
    • Proven ability to multi-task in a high volume, time sensitive and deadline driven environment.
    • Strong ability to read and analyze construction plans, specifications and details (Blueprint Reading)
    • Strong organization, documentation, computer and communication skills
    • Proficient with the following software: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Sharepoint, Teams and Outlook, On-Screen RS Means Online, and Bluebeam

Preferred Qualifications

    • HVAC and/or plumbing certifications and licenses
    • Professional relevant industry certifications and licenses
    • Electrical, HVAC and/or Plumbing subcontractor and supplier knowledge
    • NEC Journeyman or Master Electrician license
    • RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors)
