AON3D's Sensor Integration Specialist is a research role within the R&D team. The core goal of the specialist is to enable visibility to the FFF process through the integration of online and offline sensing technologies.  

Day to day, You’ll be expected to act as the subject matter expert on all things sensing, from assessing which technologies makes sense, to implementing our first prototypes, to refining outcomes over time.  The role will likely span a variety of tasks from “hands on“ building and operating prototypes,  to more strategic, deciding what to measure and why.

Through this work, you'll be furthering our understanding of how the FFF process works and what can be done to do a better job controlling it.  

Our end goal is "first time right, with any material"!

The role will be a good mix “hands on” and “heads on”, onsite, at our office in in  Montreal, Qc

Responsibilities

    • Own selecting appropriate technologies to measure identified process variables
    • Own design, fabricate, and validate prototype sensor systems, across hardware, electrical, and software post processing of raw data
    • Own integrating sensors onto R&D printers  
    • Own development of internal software tooling for processing, analyzing, and interpreting process data  
    • Own documentation of designs and implementations of prototype sensor systems
    • Support polymer processing experts in identifying what variables to measure and why
    • Support providing design inputs to the hardware engineering team for future firmware and electrical system improvements on production products
    • Support acquisition and analysis of process data from printing experiments

Requirements

    • Demonstrated experience implementing, calibrating, and validating sensors within a greater system context
    • Proficient with Python for manipulation and analysis of process data
    • Intermediate proficiency with c or c++ for modification of data acquisition systems
    • Proficient with integrated mechanical - electrical system prototyping and validation (cad design, bench fabrication, diagnostics, ect)
    • Excellent troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
    • Expert usage of measurement tools (oscilloscope, multimeter, logic analyzer, software logging, ect).
    • Mechatronic or electrical engineering background (precision electronics design)
    • Research experience or research mindset (prove it quick, refining it later)
    • 3-5 years experience


    • Nice to have
    • Experience using or building 3d printing (3dp) or additive manufacturing technologies  
    • Experience with development of polymer processing technologies (injection molding, extrusion, or thermo forming)
    • Experience contributing or modifying Klipper or Marlin 3d printer firmware
    • Experience designing and refining control systems, digital filters, and amplifiers
    • Embedded Systems Software, Firmware programming experience
    • 5+ years experience
