HTTPie is an early-stage startup building tools for developers and rethinking the human-to-API relationship from first principles. As the creators of well-loved open-source API clients for the terminal, we’re on a mission to make APIs simple and intuitive for everyone; CLI-lovers and beyond. Our vision is to build a platform helping solve problems that humans encounter throughout the entire API lifecycle. We’re starting with a web and desktop version of HTTPie. To achieve that, we recently raised our Seed Round ($6.5M) backed by some of the best investors in the US and the UK. Now we’re building out our founding Engineering & Product Team — that’s where you come in!
We’re looking for a Frontend Software Engineer to help us shape the future of API tools.
What you’ll do
- Collaborate with the team to build a product for API developers and consumers like yourself
- Deliver performant, testable, maintainable, and high-quality code on frontend
- Implement features with a focus on simplicity and top-notch user experience
- Take operational responsibility for the parts that you develop
- Have a lot autonomy and fun while doing so
You’ll be a great addition to the team if you have
- At least 5 years of software engineering experience
- Experience building single-page apps with JavaScript and React
- Solid understanding of modern coding, testing, debugging, and automation techniques
- Solid understanding of HTTP and modern APIs
- Passion for developer tools and sense for what makes them amazing
- Passion for simplicity, delightful user experience, and an eye for design
- Good sense for when to choose a robust vs. minimal solution to move fast
- Ability to comfortably navigate the ladder of abstraction
- Strong communication skills, especially in writing
- Eagerness to learn and share
Bonus points
- Experience with TypeScript, Next.js, Vercel, Electron/PWAs, WebAssembly
- Experience with Python, Rust, or Go
- Experience with building distributed systems, AWS ecosystem, Terraform
- Experience building a technology product
- Early-stage startup experience
- Open-source development experience
- History of side projects
