About this Position
The Application Architect provides holistic oversight for the Mobility application portfolio and its linkages with infrastructure. In conjunction with the Architecture, Strategy, & Innovation Lead, this role will define the application reference architectures and guide product engineers in developing applications that align to these standards. They will also consult with infrastructure service delivery teams to deploy applications to production to ensure seamless service delivery. The Application Architect will work closely with the DevOps team, Infrastructure Services team, and Business Relationship Managers.

Responsibilities and Duties:

    • Support Architecture, Strategy, & Innovation Lead in defining the overall direction for Mobility IT’s technology portfolio and roadmap
    • Create application reference architectures to be leveraged across service teams    
    • Guide delivery service teams in modifying existing services and shape new opportunities from an application feasibility, practicality, technical viability, and consistency perspective    
    • Conduct architectural review of potential applications / vendor solutions to ensure their viability and consistency with the rest of the portfolio, and what additional design is needed for integration 
    • Support infrastructure service delivery in integrating application solutions into the broader Mobility business and IT ecosystem within which it will operate
    • Assess the interactions and interfaces between applications, Identity and Access Management, databases, and middleware systems to identify and address gaps in functional coverage    
    • Support the development of a cloud-first, DevOps vision and roadmap in collaboration with the DevOps Service Lead
    • Manage integrations and interfaces between Mobility IT applications and the Corporate Aptiv environment    
    • Support Mobility product engineers in developing applications that are fit for purpose, cost-effective, and include the optimal selection of implementation technologies and practices
    • Consult service team leads in addressing key application architecture issues and decisions
    • Conduct design and source code reviews to ensure conformance to architecture standards
    • Assist Business Relationship Managers in translating business needs into high level technology requirements and solutions    
    • Provide thought leadership and guide Mobility product engineers to apply trends in application development    
    • Support Enterprise Architecture Governance processes
    • Collaborate with Corporate Enterprise Architecture team in developing technology roadmaps, capability models, contribute to standards, and maintain future state 

Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering or information systems    
    • 8+ years of relevant work experience
    • Experience with application architecture frameworks, concepts and designing IT solutions
    • Experience in application, data, platform, cloud, and infrastructure architectures
    • Proven ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment, and make sound decisions in emergency situations
    • Relevant experience in a service oriented organization
    • Highly self-motivated and directed with attention to detail
    • Strong customer service orientation
    • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
    • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
    • Outstanding time management skills

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of IT service delivery and interrelationships for applications, hosting, compute, storage, data, network, end user computing, identity access management, micro services, and DevOps
    • Experience supporting fast moving business organizations
    • Ability to develop & articulate technology innovation roadmap and vision
    • Strong strategic planning skills
    • Proven skills in service development, delivery, operations
    • Experience managing relationships across varying levels of technical competency
    • TOGAF certification or working knowledge
