A Bit About Us
We are Arcadia Science. Arcadia is a well-funded for-profit biology research and development company founded and led by scientists. Our mission is to give a community of researchers the freedom and tools to be adventurous, to discover, and to make scientific exploration financially self-sustaining in the life sciences. We are inspired by the spirit of exploration and aspire to evolve how science is done, who it attracts and rewards, and what it can achieve.
There are over one trillion species on this planet. Each of these presents an unparalleled opportunity to ask how evolution has solved problems, holding the keys to the greatest technology we have — biology itself. Yet, this technology remains remarkably underexplored. At Arcadia, we will bring together scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs to unlock this potential by pursuing discovery-based research across diverse organisms. We will invest in the development of enabling research tools that can supercharge expansion into new organisms by the broader scientific community. Translational opportunities that emerge from our research will be commercialized to sustain and fuel our continued exploration across a wider slice of biology.
We are seeking a human resources professional to develop, manage, and scale Arcadia's people operations program. As our Head of People Operations, you will help create a friendly and engaging workplace while coaching individuals and teams on leveraging their strengths to optimize performance, drive accountability, and align behaviors with Arcadia values. We are looking for someone passionate about creating a progressive, proactive, positive culture, and increasing levels of engagement, enablement, and retention.
Our ideal Head of People Operations is a smart, clear and analytical thinker with a bias toward action who enjoys innovative and creative problem solving. We are looking for a hands-on implementor who possesses a high degree of emotional intelligence and is more focused on people than policy. The ideal candidate has five or more years of combined experience in human resources, recruiting, employee relations, learning and development, and/or performance coaching. Extremely useful pluses are SHRM certification, experience working in a rapidly growing startup organization, and experience with Gallup-certified CliftonStrengths coaching.
In the first few months, you will dive into our staff’s CliftonStrengths profiles to better understand our motivations and behaviors and identify ways we can capitalize on our strengths to do our work best together. You'll work to gain an understanding of the Arcadia mission and culture, and use these insights to develop and implement our talent acquisition strategy and new hire onboarding process while administering the Rippling (HRIS) and Lever (ATS) systems. You will also help make sure Arcadia is in compliance with general HR practices and regulations.
In the first six months, while you continue to oversee and refine our recruiting and hiring processes, you’ll create and apply organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines aligned with laws and regulations that can scale with us as we grow.
In the first year, you'll create and oversee an Arcadia people-first performance management and employee coaching process and maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in people operations, human resources, talent management, and employment law.
In the first few years, you will understand workforce needs as the company scales by periodically benchmarking Arcadia's total rewards program (including compensation, benefits, flexibility, performance recognition, and career development components). Most importantly, you will become a steward and protector of the Arcadia culture, maintaining a positive and productive work environment through fair and consistent processes that provide our employees with the opportunity to succeed.
The Arcadia Story:
We are a research and development company leveraging the biology of emerging research organisms. We were founded by Seemay Chou and Prachee Avasthi, scientists convinced there is a better way to explore the full potential of science: how discoveries can be both meaningful and profitable. We are building a team of in-house scientists to carry out active research programs and convene a broader scientific community with a visiting scholars and internship program. Read more about our mission here, FAQs here, and Seemay’s founding story here.
Arcadia Science is an equal opportunity workplace; we welcome people from all backgrounds and communities. We provide competitive compensation and practical benefits to keep you happy and healthy so that you can do your best work.
