A Bit About Us:
We are Arcadia Science, a company founded and led by scientists. Our mission is to transform evolutionary innovations into real-world solutions by openly developing more efficient, replicable, and sustainable ways to leverage the biology of diverse organisms.
The Opportunity:
The Science Operations Internship is an opportunity for scientists with computational and automation skills to explore operational roles in biotech. Interns will pilot new frameworks, processes, and tools that streamline our work at Arcadia. You'll gain hands-on experience with automation tools, develop a product-oriented mindset, and contribute to process optimization.
We’re seeking scientists with at least four years of intensive research training, such as recent PhD graduates or industry professionals who are excited about optimizing complex systems. If you have a passion for increasing operational efficiency through innovative, first-principles thinking in an experimental science organization, we encourage you to apply. No prior experience in scientific operations is necessary. This role is ideal for those transitioning in their careers or seeking their first experience in science operations.
What You’ll Do at Arcadia:
- Collaborate with teams across the company to identify operational bottlenecks in their research, communication, recruitment, onboarding, and technical skill development.
- Pilot and implement cutting-edge tools that increase operational efficiency and amplify scientists' ability to focus on the most creative aspects of their research
- Design, test, and refine frameworks, processes, and tools that leverage automation to improve our operations.
- Generate prototypes and iteratively solicit feedback from Arcadians.
Required:
- 4+ years of direct experience in fundamental early-stage biological research, such as a PhD or equivalent experience in any sector.
Our Ideal Intern has:
- A product mindset with a keen interest in addressing scientists’ needs through iterative experimentation.
- Proficiency with at least one programming language (R, Python, etc.)
- Ability to distill complex problems into minimal processes.
- Willingness to dive deep into technical solutions for abstract challenges.
Duration:
The internship will be 3 months, with potential for extension.
Compensation:
Interns will be compensated at a rate of $60-75/hr, depending on experience. Arcadia is a fully on-site team. The position will require the individual to be on-site at our Berkeley, California headquarters.
Arcadia Science is an equal-opportunity workplace; we welcome people from all backgrounds and communities.
Application Process:
Interested applicants should send a resume and fully answer all application questions addressing their interest in and qualifications for the position. Please note that failure to follow instructions and address all questions will lead to automatic disqualification.
Please note that an offer of employment from Arcadia is contingent upon the successful clearance of a reference and background check.
