Research @ Arcadia:
At Arcadia, we are building an intramural research and development program that will encompass three areas: (1) emerging organismal biology, (2) enabling research technologies, and (3) translational development. Research areas will be carried out by independent scientists and scientist-led research teams. Arcadia research teams will be small in size, collaborative in nature, and charged with the exciting responsibility to pursue science that is more high-risk and exploratory than typical life science research programs. We will invest heavily in creative technology teams that can invent new research tools or engineer workflows that are currently optimized for model organismal systems. Strategic coordination between teams will be key for maximizing these investments. In addition to leading teams, Arcadia scientists will be driving engagement with the broader scientific community in order to maximize the impact of our work and identify research areas and needs that Arcadia may be uniquely positioned to address.

The Opportunity:
In the first year, Arcadia needs a lab manager who is the first and last line of defense to keep our scientists well stocked and legally compliant. This means establishing systems and policies around the following, and making sure they happen:
- Develop and maintain an organized inventory
- Outfit our initial lab
manage relationships with vendors.
- Place orders for laboratory chemicals and consumables, ensuring delivery, distribution, and storage
- Coordinate movement of equipment between existing laboratories and new laboratories
- Maintains inventory and critical stock levels.
- Coordinate lab EH&S compliance with UC Berkeley, local, state, and federal authorities. In year 1, this will be supplemented by UC - - Berkeley staff to assist with compliance.
- Ensure proper safety training is conducted and documented.
- Coordinate waste disposal and record-keeping
- Coordinate equipment repairs.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets for all relevant supplies.

We want to move fast, so if you see a problem that you can solve, you default to jumping in to fix it yourself. You also know what to delegate, and when to find an expert. You're friendly and easy to work with.

In the second/third year, you'll be the point person for translating these systems as we move locations to our permanent HQ. As time goes on, we'll be working with an increasingly diverse set of project types, organisms, and equipment, and we'll need our laboratory's organization to scale with that increasing complexity.

Our ideal candidate is excited about making scientific process more productive and efficient. You think carefully about tradeoffs around orderliness and over-burdensome process. You likely have a background in biology or a related discipline, or some experience in a highly organized operational role managing inventory. Salary is expected to come in around $90K-$150K, plus benefits.
