As Manager, Engineering, you lead the team of engineers and engineering technicians in order to maximize factory efficiency in output and cost and work with product teams on the engineering of product in the design process utilizing LEAN manufacturing concepts when appropriate

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

    • You lead the formulation and implementation of studies and programs aimed at improving productivity in manufacturing by focusing on flexible manufacturing techniques, machine innovation and automation, continuous improvement, cost reduction, quality improvement, and performance measurement
    • You establish a structure to continually develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, construction methods, and quality control standards
    • You lead, coach, and empower a team of high performing Engineers and Engineering Technicians, balancing different skill sets and delegating work with strengths based leadership approach
    • You create a standardized program to measure and improve labour standards and costs, including but not limited to initial labour cost in minutes, piecework and modular team rates, work station design, machinery requirement, and workflow plans for all products; ensuring all labour rates are set fairly and equally according to time and skill required
    • You ensure the maintenance of accurate database of piecework and modular system, functionality, rates and operations for all products that come through the factory, ensuring correct and up to date standard allowed minutes (SAMs) are implemented
    • You liaise with the Design Centre on new and existing products to ensure the correct and most current process, product data, technique and quality requirements are generated, communicated, documented and understood by all parties and optimal manufacturing efficiency is achieved
    • You assist Manager, Factory in analyzing and planning work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and in designing layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency
    • You provide support to the implementation and promotion of Lean program and related projects in the Factory
    • You take on other projects and responsibilities consistent with the position and as required with the changing needs of the organization in support of business development

Additional experience, education and/or skills required:

    • You have post-secondary education in mechanical or industrial engineering with 8+ years’ experience as Production Engineer in manufacturing
    • You have 3+ years’ experience leading and motivating a high performing team
    • You have 2+ years’ experience in the apparel/textile industry with general knowledge of garment construction
    • You have previous experience in Design for Manufacturing (DFMA), methods and process engineering, work studies, facility planning and cost estimation
    • You have excellent computer skills with high proficiency in Microsoft Excel and knowledge of CAD program and drafting skills
    • You have excellent ability to analyze complex data in order to draw meaningful conclusion
    • You have high attention to details
    • You have highly effective verbal and written communication skills
    • You are able to balance autonomy and collaboration with strong interpersonal skills with ability to deal with difficult situation with tact and professionalism
    • You are proactive in identifying the root cause of issues and developing solutions
    • You seek the best (but sometimes not the easiest) solutions, with an unwavering commitment

Additional experience, education and/or skills (assets):

    • You have general knowledge of garment related equipment and machinery
    • You are well-versed in manipulation of audio visual equipment
    • You have knowledge of Arc’teryx’s unique products
