As a Senior Designer, you design advanced, comprehensive Hardgoods solutions that are aligned with the Arc’teryx design philosophies, continuously exceeding our guests’ evolving needs. In this role, you establish the long-term vision and design strategy for technical packs and bags for our climb, snow, and trail product categories. You bring your curiosity and passion for product to imagine and build innovative, relevant and resolved designs.
This role is based out of our North Vancouver office and is expected to be performed on-location.

The Hardgoods and Accessories design team work together on a wide variety of product categories covering packs, accessories, harnesses and gloves to support all of our activity collections. We are builders, problem solvers and passionate outdoor enthusiasts. Fueled by curiosity, we take an immersive approach to identifying future needs then build test and validate products that solve for real functional challenges. We are innovative problem solvers with a focus on collaborative teamwork.
If you were in the Senior Designer role now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:
- Collaborating with leadership and key stakeholders to establish and drive the vision and long-term design strategy for packs and bags for our climb, snow and trail product categories
- Designing novel product solutions and re-designing and updating existing products
- Inspiring, empowering, and collaborating with a group of high-performing Designers and Design Developers to create comprehensive design solutions to exceed user’s needs
- Adhering to the Arc’teryx Sustainability Design Principles, while also contributing to future improvements
- Collaborating with activity experts (both internal and external) across all disciplines, to generate new insights and validate new product concepts
- Identifying and creating innovative performance or technology platforms that underpin product categories
- Driving the commercialization of innovative technologies, including materials, pattern/part shaping and construction techniques for existing and future product categories
- Creating patterns, mock-ups, and prototypes to explore, resolve, or prove new concepts or construction techniques
- Collaborating with the Fit & Pattern Team to resolve fit style and construction issues to ensure a fully commercialized product
- Coordinating with the Raw Materials team to test new materials and ensure that necessary items are available for prototyping
- Collaborating closely with other Designers to create and bring new and better toolbox solutions that benefit the brand (such as new technologies, construction techniques, features, etc.)
- Collaborating with the Merchandising team and Design Directors on seasonal line plans and project resource planning
- Partnering with Product Development leadership to gain visibility into cost estimates, Minimum Order Quantities (MOQs) and manufacturing concerns throughout concepting and prototyping for seasonal products
- Travelling internationally to factory and vendor partners 2x per year minimum

- Working closely with Design leadership and Merchandising teams to craft a strategic plan for packs and bags across all activities at Arc’teryx
- Collaborating with various design activity leaders to identify new product opportunities and propose product solutions
- Working closely with our development teams and innovation partnerships to challenge and evolve the way we bring innovative ideas to production
Are you our next Senior Designer?
- You have a Degree in Design (Apparel, Industrial, etc.) or the equivalent experience
- You have8+ years’ hands-on experience designing relevant textile-based products for the outdoor industry
- You have advanced knowledge in sketching, design, patterning, sewing, and other industrial pack construction processes, with advanced technical and creative skills to prototype new products
- You are an excellent team player with the ability to partner across a large cross-functional team
- You are comfortable providing mentorship and development opportunities to team members
- You value the feedback loop throughout the design creation process, and you are ready to proactively partner to get the best product outcomes
- You have hands-on experience creating tools and construction methods to assist in solving construction issues
- You have excellent planning, organizational, problem solving and decision-making skills
- You are technically proficient with 8+years’ experience using CAD, Adobe Illustrator, Gerber or the equivalent patterning and design software
- You are proactive in identifying the root cause of issues, seeking the best (sometimes not the easiest) solutions with an unwavering commitment to do what is right
- You remain highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity
- You effectively balance autonomy and collaboration
- You inspire breakthrough thinking and continuous improvement

$106,000 - $133,000 a year
A reasonable estimate of the pay range is CAD$106,000 - CAD$133,000 at the time of this posting. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training. The upper end of the range is typically reserved for candidates with demonstrated expertise that is above job requirements or who bring exceptional directly transferable experience.
