Your Opportunity at ARC’TERYX:
As a Senior Merchant, you are responsible for the long-range vision and the creation of profitable seasonal assortments and line plans for our Accessories and Hardgoods product categories. Your strategies align with the overall merchandising strategy and support our company goals by focusing on consumer needs and brand opportunities to bring innovative solutions to market.
This role is primarily based out of our North Vancouver office and is open to hybrid remote work. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.
Meet Your Future Team:
The Hardgoods and Accessories Merchandising team delivers the seasonal product line that supports the overall design creative direction, while driving company sales, gross margin, and inventory productivity goals in both our wholesale and vertical channels. This high performing team works closely with our Design and Development teams to create future seasonal line plans and partners with our Planning and Allocations teams to maximize in-season sales performance.  

If you were a Senior Merchant – Accessories & Hardgoods now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:

    • Creating a successful merchandising strategy across all business units for your categories and product areas
    • Mentoring, training and supporting the Merchants and Associate Merchants across the team  
    • Building and successfully executing the merchandising strategy for the Accessories and Hardgoods product categories
    • Delivering on our our 10-year brand vision by hitting sales, gross margin and inventory productivity goals through partnership with Design and Allocations teams, across all countries and business channels 
    • Determining and managing the product lifecycle for each model from development to commercialization, to eventual redesign, replacement, or retirement
    • Partnering with the Planning team to create a strategic seasonal selling plan, including plans to grow, diminish, hold, exit, and launch as well as sell-thru vs sell-in
    • Collaborating closely with global Planning and Allocations teams to ensure that regional needs are incorporated into the global line plan
    • Providing a global product framework and assortment structure that guides Merchant execution within retail, wholesale key accounts and digital channels to maximize sales, profit and global brand positioning
    • Researching and analyzing the global marketplace, identifying key consumer and market insights to inform the concept work and development of new products and the range
    • Writing and presenting product briefs for each new product that aligns with the Hardgoods and Accessories category strategy, seasonal story-telling focus, and brand vision
    • Developing and sustaining a close relationship with Design and Development teams during the seasonal design process to ensure products are aligned with the briefs proposed
    • Developing and delivering product presentations for key calendar touchpoints that inspire and deliver the critical information to our internal stakeholders to ensure successful development of seasonal assets and plans
    • Maintaining effective partnerships with Visual Merchandising, Design, Development, Brand Marketing and Colour teams to ensure seasonal strategies come to life in all channels and regions
    • Owning the global go-to-market product knowledge and providing Global Commercial teams and partners with sell-in tools and product information consistently across all channels

    • Exploring new product categories within Accessories that rounds out the complete mountain kit for our guests
    • Maximizing the efficiency and profitability of the global assortment across all regions and points of retail distribution

Are you our next Senior Merchant – Accessories & Hardgoods?

    • You have 8+ years of experience in merchandising, product development, wholesale and/or retail buying roles
    • You have strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail
    • You have effective and efficient time management skills, strong analytical skills, and excellent communication and presentation skills
    • You have a strong understanding of the active apparel market within the outdoor industry, as well as the key outdoor activities we make product for
    • You have an excellent understanding of the design and development process
    • You have strong leadership and teamwork skills to help facilitate work across many different internal departments and external key accounts and vendors
    • You demonstrate the ability to work well across diverse teams and departments to establish consensus or drive solutions
    • You are proficient in the use of Adobe and Microsoft Office (especially Powerpoint and Excel)
    • You are willing and able to travel as required (trade shows, key dealer presentations, key vendor meetings, core consumer events, etc.)
    • You demonstrate an impeccable taste and are passionate about sustainability, being outside, and the collective power of humanity
    • You are proactive in identifying the root cause of issues and developing solutions
    • You are highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity
    • You demonstrate the ability to balance autonomy and collaboration well
