Your opportunity at Arc’teryx:
As a Senior Merchant, you are responsible for creating the long-range vision and profitable seasonal assortment and line plans for our Veilance product categories, with a focus on our Women’s product line. Your strategies align with the overall merchandising strategy and support our company goals by focusing on consumer needs and brand opportunities to bring innovative solutions to market.
 
This role is based out of our North Vancouver office and is open to hybrid remote work. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.

Meet Your Future Team:
Your future Merchandising team is responsible for delivering the seasonal product line for Veilance that supports the overall design creative direction, while driving company sales, gross margin, and inventory productivity goals in both our wholesale and vertical channels. This high performing team works closely with Design and Development to create future seasonal line plans, and with Planning and Allocations teams to maximize in-season sales performance. 

If you were in a Senior Merchant role now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:

    • Creating and executing a successful merchandising strategy across all business units for your categories and product areas
    • Leading, training, supporting and mentoring the other members of the team as a senior member of the merchant team
    • Partnering with your Design and Merchandise Planning teams, across all countries and business channels to build and successfully execute the strategy for your dedicated product categories, delivering on our 10-year brand vision, sales, gross margin and inventory productivity goals
    • Determining and managing the product lifecycle for each model, from development, to commercialization, to eventual redesign, replacement or retirement
    • Partnering with the Merchandise Planning team to create a strategic seasonal selling plan; including plans to grow, diminish, hold, exit, and launch, as well as sell-through vs sell-in
    • Collaborating closely with international buying teams to ensure that regional needs are incorporated into the global line plan
    • Developing a global product framework and assortment structure that guides merchant execution within retail, wholesale key account and digital channels to maximize sales, profit and global brand positioning; building strategies that are informed by rigorous data-analysis
    • Researching and analyzing the global marketplace, identifying key consumer and market insights to inform the concept work and development of new products
    • Writing and presenting product briefs for each new product that aligns with the category strategy, seasonal story-telling focuses, and brand vision; ensuring products are aligned with brief through close partnership with Design and Development teams during seasonal design process
    • Developing and delivering product presentations for key calendar touchpoints that inspire and deliver the critical information to our internal stakeholders to ensure successful development of seasonal assets and plans
    • Driving effective partnerships with Visual Merchandising, Design, Development, Marketing and Colour teams to ensure seasonal strategies come to life in all channels and regions
    • Owning global go-to-market product knowledge and providing global Commercial teams and partners with sell-in tools and product information consistently, across all channels
    • Upholding Fair Labor Association’s Workplace Code of Conduct and Principles of Fair Labor and Responsible Sourcing, throughout the Arc’teryx supply chain

    • Planning upcoming seasons and building a fresh merchandising strategy in alignment with the Director, Merchandising
    • Initiating work on upcoming seasonal buys and partnering with Retail teams to kick off store rollout
    • Supporting cross-functional teams with the active rollout of upcoming seasons

Are you our next Senior Merchant?

    • You have 8+ years of experience in merchandising and/or retail buying roles
    • You have a strong understanding of the luxury apparel market and/or the premium outdoor industry
    • You have strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail
    • You have effective and efficient time management skills and strong analytical skills
    • You have excellent communication and presentation skills
    • You have an excellent understanding of the design and development process
    • You have strong leadership and teamwork skills to help facilitate work across many different internal departments and external key accounts and vendors
    • You demonstrate the ability to work well across diverse teams and departments to establish consensus or drive solutions
    • You are proficient in the use of Adobe and Microsoft Office (especially Powerpoint and Excel)
    • You are willing and able to travel as required (trade shows, key dealer presentations, key vendor meetings, core consumer events, etc.
    • You demonstrate an impeccable taste and are passionate about sustainability, being outside, and the collective power of humanity
    • You are proactive in identifying the root cause of issues and developing solutions
    • You are highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity
    • You demonstrate the ability to balance autonomy and collaboration well

$91,000 - $114,000 a year
A reasonable estimate of the pay range is $91,000 - $114,000 CAD at the time of this posting. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training. 

Please note that the range details above reflect the base pay only and does not include our competitive bonus program and benefits that we offer.
