Office Manager

Boston, MA /
Operations /
Our mission at Asimov is to radically advance humankind's ability to design living systems. We're developing a mammalian synthetic biology platform––from cells to software––to enable biotechnologies with outsized impact, with an initial focus on gene therapies, cell therapies, and protein therapeutics.

As our first ever Office Manager, you’ll play a key role in delivering a truly great experience for our employees, clients, and community members. Working from our brand new lab and office in Boston’s Fenway neighborhood, you’ll support our growing team of scientists, engineers, researchers, business development folks (and more!) by keeping the day-to-day office operations running smoothly. This is a unique opportunity to work at a nimble, forward-thinking synthetic biology startup and help build the foundation for engineering biology!

About the role

    • As our first ever Office Manager, you’ll take the lead in organizing all our office operations and procedures, evolving them as we grow.
    • You'll partner with facility management vendors, including cleaning, catering, and security services, and you’ll keep our day-to-day office operations running smoothly.
    • You'll assist our founders, commercial team, and remote employees with travel to our Boston office for investor, client, and team meetings.
    • Welcoming new members of the team is a key part of the employee lifecycle. You’ll assist with their desk setup and help them find their way around the office.
    • Managing our twice weekly catered lunch will be part of your weekly flow, mixing it up, managing dietary requirements, and making sure it’s set up and put away each time.
    • You’ll partner with the People Ops team to support events off-site and at the office, including hackathons, team gatherings, and social events.
    • You’ll manage all our incoming and outgoing mail, ensuring everything gets to where it needs to go.
    • As the first point of contact for candidates, clients, investors, and new employees, you’ll welcome visitors to our office and help them find what they need.
    • We’ll need your help managing flu and vaccine clinics for our growing team.
    • You’ll be the go-to person when employees have questions about building access, hosting visitors, parking, and probably things we haven’t even thought of yet!
    • This is a full-time, in-person role at our brand new Boston Fenway office and lab.

About you

    • You have a customer service mindset and feel motivated to help set others up for success by anticipating needs and responding quickly.
    • You value teamwork and are motivated to contribute to the team’s goals. Being detail-oriented isn’t just a soundbite for you, it’s part of your DNA.
    • Keeping track of a bunch of moving parts is easy for you because you’re highly organized.
    • You’re comfortable communicating in person, on the phone, and in writing with folks from diverse backgrounds and disciplines.
    • You’re flexible. We’re a growing company and we all need to roll up our sleeves from time-to-time to get things done.
    • A lot of our work is done on the computer. You feel comfortable with basic tools and web apps.
    • This isn’t your first rodeo when it comes to supporting a group of people! You have experience in a similar role whether it’s customer service, office management, or administrative support.

About the team

    • This role reports to Jess Rock, our Senior Manager of Lab Operations. You’ll work with her to make sure our office functions align well with our company values and business goals.
    • You’ll partner with Becca Van Nederynen, our Head of People to make sure new employees are set up with everything they need to to be productive from day one.
    • Our awesome external finance partners will help you get invoices and finance related mail to the right file, folder, or mailbox.
We're fueled by a vision to transform biological engineering into a fully-fledged engineering discipline. Should you join our team, you will grow with a constantly evolving organization and push the frontiers of synthetic biology. Company culture is key to Asimov, and ours is a culture of recombination; we believe that our mission can only be achieved by bringing together a diverse team with a mixture of backgrounds and perspectives.
