Four billion people do not have access to the internet. Astranis is going to change that. We are building the next generation of smaller, lower-cost telecommunications satellites to bring the world online. And to pull it off we have to reinvent microwave radio systems in space using SDRs.

Work with incredibly smart people who have flown things in space before. We are a well-funded team that moves fast. Space experience desired but not a must! You just need to enjoy getting your hands dirty with real hardware and be ok with struggling to do things that seem impossibly hard.

    • Work with commercial team to develop and maintain trusting and collaborative customer technical relationships
    • Work with all levels of customer organization to help the business development team identify customer's technical needs
    • Represent Astranis at (technical) customer meetings as well as industry conferences
    • Generate clear, concise, organized, well formatted documents and presentations
    • Leverage knowledge of Astranis payload to maximize performance/capacity at minimum cost and effort to Astranis
    • Contribute to the payload technology roadmap
    • Evaluate technical feasibility of various customer or internal proposals (study impact of a proposed change on all aspects of the spacecraft design and operation)
    • Run detailed link budgets (model rain fade, interference, satellite pointing error, ground segment performance, etc, etc)
    • Frequency planning and coordination
    • Optional: Plan teleport and gateway solutions, developing relationships with third party providers and manage cost


    • Three years of recent, relevant experience including significant experience in the satellite space segment and familiarity with the ground segment (satellite modem technologies, hubs, user terminals & ground stations)
    • Strong English language communication skills, both written and oral
    • Skilled at generating clear, concise, organized, well formatted documents and presentations
    • Ability to make good decisions while collaborating with diverse internal and external customers under tight timelines
    • Familiarity with digital communications concepts (spectral efficiency, modulation, channel coding, roll-off factors, latency, packet error rate, TDMA/FDMA/CDMA, link adaptation, SNR, SINR, etc)
    • Familiarity with RF/Antenna concepts (directivity, efficiency, noise figure, noise temperature, path loss, insertion loss, multi-path, distortion, interference, linearity, etc)
    • Familiarity with networking standards (IP, UDP, TCP, VoIP, etc)
    • Comfortable with Python or another scripting language
    • Willingness and ability to travel as needed, 5-10%
    • US Citizen or Green Card


    • Experience working as a communication systems engineer
    • Experience working as an RF design engineer
    • Experience running detailed link budgets
    • Knowledge of the main market segments / verticals served by satellite data communications: cell backhaul, trunking, VSAT, maritime, aero, government and video
    • Familiarity with common satellite waveforms, including DVB-S2(x) and DVB-RCS(2)Knowledge of existing satellite systems in various orbits
    • Other languages are considered a plus, especially Spanish, French, Arabic and Japanese
