Team Lead - Component Assembly, Integration, and Test Engineering (AI&T)

The Production team is responsible for building and launching quality hardware on-time, and this role is a pivotal part of the org, bridging supply chain, internal production, and test. As manager of team lead of component level AI&T, you will be responsible for board and box level build and test of Astranis components, including the hardware test racks. The role requires both electrical and mechanical assembly/test knowledge, a strong quality mindset, and ability to stand up processes and workcenters from scratch. The scope includes assembly both internal and external (contract manufacturers) to Astranis, requiring extreme breadth and organizational skills.


    • Lead the PCBA and Electro-Mechanical Assembly team, including hiring and training engineers and technicians.
    • Build out the production area in our factory to support assembly and test of PCBAs and box assemblies for the next block of Astranis spacecraft.
    • Manage day-to-day activities on production floor, and create and monitor metrics for production rate and quality to ensure on-time delivery of conforming hardware.
    • Develop new business processes for scheduling, building and testing hardware, and managing non-conformances.
    • Partner with design, supply chain, and external partners to create a system for outsourcing PCBAs.
    • Build, validate, and maintain standard test racks for each product, to conduct functional and environmental testing.
    • Create standards for Design for Manufacturing/Design for Test, and work with design engineering teams to implement.


    • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
    • 3+ years of professional experience in a manufacturing/production environment.
    • 1+ years of experience managing a team of engineers and/or technicians.
    • Ability to work long hours and weekends as needed, including long periods of sitting or standing.


    • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role in a manufacturing environment transitioning products from development into production.
    • Hands-on experience using assembly tools (torque wrenches, fixtures, etc,) and electrical test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.).
    • Experience automating tests, test equipment, and measurement techniques.
    • Proficiency in electronics manufacturing processes, and equipment, including a strong working knowledge of EEE piece parts, PCB, PCBA, electromechanical assembly, and electrical test.
    • Experience with process development/qualification, new product development, PFMEA, capacity/resource planning, and lean manufacturing.
    • Experience with design for manufacturability and design for test.
    • Ability to influence other organizations through strong engineering/business rationale and data.
    • Ability to work well in an integrated team including daily interactions with technicians, engineers and managers.
