ABOUT THIS ROLE:

Atmosphere is looking for an experienced Sr. Data Engineer to join our growing Data & Analytics team. You will be responsible for managing an end-to-end pipeline for billions of data points that are generated every single day across our global network of devices, enabling near real-time analytics for internal systems, models and reports.  You will focus on architecting robust, scalable data infrastructure and processes that can meet the current and future state needs of a rapidly growing platform.  You will explore ways to increase the value of our data to Atmosphere, its customers and advertisers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines to process, transform, and load large volumes of data from first- and third-party sources into our data warehouse.  Advise on and enact data retention policies and related data flows.
    • Identify opportunities to add new valuable data sources to our pipeline as well as drive more value from our existing data.  Think beyond the data itself to its potential applications to prioritize new data initiatives.
    • Implement data modeling and schema design best-practices to ensure data quality and performance while balancing pipeline cost vs. effectiveness.
    • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements like automating manual tasks and optimizing for data integrity & delivery speed.
    • Create data tools to monitor pipeline tasks and alert on overages in cost or degradation in runtime.  Identify areas for improvement and understand which changes to prioritize based on assessment of impact and effort.
    • Work closely with stakeholders, including the Executive, Product, Sales & Marketing, and Content teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
    • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using MySQL, Amazon Redshift, and pandas.
    • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Data & Analytics team members, guiding them in design principles, coding standards, and engineering best practices.

REQUIREMENTS:

    • 3-5 years of experience in a Data Engineer role
    • Master of SQL and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
    • Able to triage data quality and performance issues, with a demonstrated track record of driving continuous improvements to the data pipeline and related processes.
    • Knowledgeable about data stack architecture, data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and workflow orchestration tools (e.g. Apache Airflow, Apache Dataflow) with specific expertise in managing Big Data stores.
    • Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, C++, Scala, etc.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
    • Strong project management and organizational skills
