The opportunity

As a Lead Product Designer, you'll help shape the future of Atomi. This is a strategic individual contributor role where you’ll drive design quality, mentor other designers and help set the direction of our product experience. You’ll report to the VP of Design and Marketing and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across the business.

At Atomi, we aim to move quickly and keep things transparent. Once you’re into the interview stage, we’ll make sure you get meaningful feedback and insights from the team. For this role, you can expect the process to look like this:
• Initial Screen w/ Atomi's People Team
• Interview Round 1: Leadership and Design Motivations
• Interview Round 2: Cross-functional & Design Deep-Dive (Case Study Presentation)

What You'll Do

    • Help shape the product vision and design strategy to align with user needs and business goals
    • Lead design projects across multiple squads from research and discovery through to polished UI
    • Drive high-quality, user-centred design through wireframes, prototypes and visual design
    • Guide research efforts to uncover user insights that inform product direction
    • Work closely with product managers, engineers and other stakeholders to prioritise and deliver features
    • Champion consistent, accessible design across all touchpoints, including our design system
    • Advocate for design excellence and best practices in your squad and across the product org
    • Mentor and support other product designers, creating space for growth, feedback and collaboration
    • Act as a design voice in leadership conversations, both internally and externally when needed
    • Lead by example: balancing craft, strategy and empathy in everything you do

What You'll Bring to Atomi

    • Deep experience designing intuitive products with real impact -- ideally in education or SaaS
    • A strong portfolio that showcases your ability to connect user needs with strategic design
    • Excellent craft, with a sharp eye for interaction, accessibility and visual design
    • Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence and align cross-functional teams
    • A proactive, thoughtful approach and comfort working in ambiguity
    • Experience mentoring designers and helping others do their best work
    • Mastery of tools like Figma, and confidence with agile, collaborative teams
    • A valid Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain one)

How to apply

Ironically for an education company, we’re not huge sticklers for qualifications. We’re more interested in how your skills and experience can contribute to our team. Make sure to include links to any relevant projects, like your portfolio, writing, GitHub, etc. - whatever helps us understand what you're good at, what you're passionate about, and why you’d be a great fit at Atomi.

We also know great people come from all kinds of backgrounds, so even if you don't meet all the requirements we've listed, you should still apply.

Please note: You'll need Australian working rights for this role.
